Velvet and Live Rock

A friend of mine got velvet from somewhere. He has some live rock i was going to take off his hands and cycle my tank with but im unsure of the effects seeing he did have velvet? Anyone know if the rock is safe to use to cycle my tank? To my understanding it lives on fish only? any ideas?

The rock would need to be left fallow (in a fishless environment) for 6 weeks to be made safe. Or sterilize it and use it as dry rock.

Yes i already added it. I dont plan on adding fish as its a frag system. So i will wait my time out. Thanks for the response!
