How long do I run copper in a display tank for velvet? My tank is a fowlr and velvet took over pretty bad. Did everything suggested in the velvet post and everyone seems to be surviving and doing well. My question is I can’t find anywhere on how long to treat the display tank with the fish in it. I don’t have a quarantine
Tank big enough for everyone so had to treat in the display.

Similar to treatment of ich, You will need to place fish in Quarantine tank and treat with Coppersafe or Copper Power at therapeutic level 2.25 for a FULL 30 days (do not interrupt this 30 day period) monitored with a Hanna Brand copper test kit- No API brand. Also monitor Ammonia levels while in quarantine with a reliable test kit and add aeration during treatment using an air stone. All other fish in with it should also be removed as they have also been exposed to the parasites and placed in quarantine tank.
The display tank will have to be kept fishless (FALLOW) for 6-8 weeks to assure the existing parasites go through their life cycle without a host fish and die off. Inverts and coral can remain in the display (not treatment) tank during fallow period.

Since you are running copper in your FOWLR display, you don't have to run the tank fallow. Just keep the copper at 2.25 to 2.5 ppm for 30 days, then do partial water changes to drop the copper down.

Now, there will be some copper that gets absorbed and adsorbed onto your live rock. That amount won't harm the fish, but later on, if you use that rock in tanks with invertebrates, it could possibly release the copper (like if the pH drops) and that can harm the invertebrates.
