Is this velvet?

Hello all I was wondering if this is velvet or ich as it’s appearing on this flashers wrasses find little white dots with maybe a sheen.

Before people ask for another photo this is with white lights! iPhone camera are just weird

I have copper power on standby and used RO water in the tank with 0 PRIME this time so I shouldn’t have issues.

Do I need to ramp up copper power or no.

Tank is a 10 gallon QT just the flasher and a small coral beauty.

….why do I get so unlucky with fish and this QT has velvet before but I did clean the tank out, bleach it, hydrogen peroxide it, wash it out and restart it so unfortunately I just got unlucky again

I will add he is eating and active and not breathing heavily yet

Does copper work for ich?

This is a QT tank with bare bottom and nothing it in but the two fish so I’m good on that front

Edit: do I need to ramp up the copper or all at once to get to 2.5ppm is fine? It’s copper power.

Perfect I just made an edit do I need to ramp up copper power or just all at once is fine since the coral beauty is a drawf angel.

This is why we QT I guess lol it’s only been a week so I’m not that suprised ich popped up it’s ugly head

Do not ramp but get straight to 2.2 as ramping allows the disease to take hold of the fish

i HIGHLY RECOMMEND USING A HANNA COPPER TEST KIT FOR ACCURACY

I agree, this is ich.

You really do need a Hanna HR copper checker for accurate dosing.

I don’t have one… and none are near me since copper is technically illegal for hobby use in Canada I’ll see what I can do I have a serif one or whatever it’s called not API

Gotcha FYI, I tried using an API test kit (lol now, not then) when I first started. You can’t monitor super accurately without a Hanna unfortunately . I don’t know if time is of the essence, but the fish medics recommend ramping up right away(no more than 24 hours) and treating right away because many fish die quickly from ICH but if you know the true water volume (not stated tank volume) you can get really close by following the bottle instructions on dosing while you wait for your checker to arrive. Good luck.

If you meant you had salifert test kit that’s certainly enough to get you started. I wouldn’t delay treatment on getting the Hanna test kit.

Yea that’s what I’m going for I’m gonna order one but I dossed regardless with the math I have. My tank is a 10 gallon QT (what space allows for) but my true water volume is 9 given I only have PVC pipes, heater and the water volume is probably missing 500-700ml from the top. I dossed 10ml which should get me to 2ppm and when I get the Hanna I’ll check and see if I need a little more.

Luckily the ich seems mild as they are still eating swimming and acting normal but I dosssed regardless.

Nobodies dying like last time I dossed as I learned the very hard way prime and copper power dont mix.

I used Cupramine the first time I treated with copper and I could not see any reliable color change with API (at .5) Then again I wasn’t told not to use a UV sterilizer at the same time 🫪. But fish can be tough.
