Violet Aquarium, anyone used them?

Talk to the owner of the store and he confirmed that the pictures of the way you see what you get or taken over and Indonesia so there’s been a couple ones that have been labeled wrong and so I think that’s part of the problem. What you see is what you get cause I don’t think that they keep them straight when they ship over from Indonesia to the facility so I think that he just sends whichever one of that fish is in the store currently cause I can’t keep it straight. But yeah, if I had a extremely rare fish, which I kinda do now that I probably would not go with them again unless it was a heel cause heels are pretty they’re pretty hearty so

That makes sense. When it comes to things like goldflakes and emperor angels, specific individuals can look so different so its just not worth it to me to make an order with them.

I lost an adult emperor from them in a week. It was horrible, but I have two healthy eels and a grouper from them!

Have had no luck with them. Would go with other on line vendors like NYAquatic, marine collection, etc

Yeah I have two very healthy eels and a grouper from them but then the adult emperor issue. Its super hit and miss with them, I havnt ordered from them in a long time

I ordered a male banana wrasse yesterday because was 20% off and free shipping and didn't really need WYSIWYG for that. Got no email it shipped so now am at work unprepared and wife is at home and its out for delivery with no where to put it (Not putting it directly in display and my quarantine has two fish from NYA in it). Luckily my quarantine is essentially done but is full of copper so going to need to go home and do a massive water change and move the quarantine fish to the display and the wrasse into the quarantine all before a concert I have to rush to...If only wrasses tolerated copper, this would be an easy swap

Updating, very happy with the banana wrasse, its very beautiful and seems very healthy. Been in copper power at 2.2 for 3 days and immediately ate.

I know this is an old thread but I am currently dealing with them and strongly do not recommend doing business with Violet Aquarium LLC.

My order arrived with dead and non-viable livestock. I promptly reported the DOA fish and a coral that arrived extremely compromised, including photos taken immediately upon receipt. Rather than addressing the condition of the shipment, the company refused to refund the coral and insisted on store credit only, which would have required me to place another order and pay additional shipping.

When I stated that I would pursue a chargeback for the defective portion of the order, the tone of communication escalated dramatically. I was repeatedly accused of “fraud,” threatened with blacklisting, and subjected to personal attacks unrelated to the transaction.

The owner wrote, among other things:
“If you file chargeback you are out. Yes, we will ban you as fraud.”
“You want to commit fraud by filing a chargeback?”
“Believe me this universe will also give up on you if you are like this.”

I was also falsely accused of “impersonating an attorney,” despite the fact that I am in fact an attorney who is no longer actively practicing and made no attempt to provide legal services. These accusations were personal, inaccurate, and entirely inappropriate in the context of a consumer dispute.


The volume, hostility, and content of the emails became harassing. At no point did the company attempt to resolve the issue in a professional or good-faith manner.

Consumers should be aware that if livestock arrives dead or compromised, you may be met with intimidation and personal attacks rather than a resolution. I strongly recommend proceeding with caution

I have several fish from Violet Aquarium. They are local to me so I never had to deal with shipping or anything similar. They have the one of most extensive collection of fish in Northern California (the only other shop that is comparable is Aquatic Collection). The last fish I bought from them was a Copperband. I purchased the fish the day it arrived from the importer from the airport. All fish purchased from here are put through medicated quarantine.

Crazy, Ive never had that experience with them! I have two very healthy eels and a grouper (rehomed after trying to eat a fish as big as it) and they were healthy! I had two DOAs from them before and they always gave me store credit for more than the fish was worth. I got the two eels with store credit. Im sorry you had that experience!

With so many other options and a quantity of mix reviews at best, why take the chance? They are inconsistent for sure so just move on and use someone else…..that’s my view anyway….

Yeah I mean Ive used them and not had bad experiences. But my go to is NY Aquatics and Reef Beauties

Every order I have gotten has been perfect. Super healthy disease free fish!

Chiming in here. Have been debating making an order. I've called them 3 different times to get videos of fish eating listed as WYSIWYG. All 3 times I've been shown different fish, being told the one I wanted to see isn't eating or is in quarantine or actually sold but is still listed on the site. I've asked to see 5 WYSIWYG fish those 3 times and am 0/5 being shown the fish listed on the site. The one fish (not WYSIWYG) I was shown had HLLE and when I text that I got no reply. I also said I don't care if the fish isn't eating just please send a video of it, and I got no reply. They clearly don't have the WYSIWYG fish in stock.

Don’t order from them. The owner is a complete jerk, rude, and blames anything and everything on the customer.
I just sent them an email yesterday asking them if their copperband butterflies were eating and were told yes they were eating pellets. They told me to send them an email and I could have a video of them eating. When I sent the email today, they told me “they don’t train copperbands to eat”. When I told them that when I called yesterday they said they were eating pellets, the owner sent me a very nasty reply and told me he was blocking me and would never do business with me again as you can see below.
The owner responds this way to every review or comment that he does not like. I would steer 100% clear of this place.

For what its worth I got a fish from them. Banana Wrasse. QT'd it in copper for two weeks and it ate totally fine. Put it in my display and it died from some unknown infection within days. Was definitely not from my tank because tgod no one else got the same disease or has since. I don't blame them because until it got a giant red gash the day before it died, there was no way to tell it wasn't healthy. The employees have all been great whenever I've called. But I've seen those comments from the owner on so many reviews and it is very concerning. Have not ordered from them since besides a WYSIWYG angel they refunded me on because it died. I just really prefer to buy in person to check for disease.
