I would go with 2xmp20's so you can have flow hitting both sides of your tank.Flow plays an important row in keeping sps and you want no dead spots in your tank.

1 should be enough and would work, but probalby isn't ideal. I have only 1 on for my 180 and it's ok, but at the far end of the tank away from the vortech the flow is pretty weak. 2 would be best.

They do not sell the mp20's anymore....

On A 48" tank deffiantly 2 MP40's!

You might even be able to get away with (2) mp10's on a 75. When they did the test on GB, they said the max flow was under stated and that it is actually 1800 gph. I had (2) K3's in my 75 and that was plenty. I had trouble finding a place to put my frogspawn and hammer. If you are even thinking of upgrading to anything bigger in the future then mp40s.

i do my return my mp-40 and a k4 on the back side of the tank. works very well. im thinking about a mp-10 for the other side of the tank tho

i have a k4 and k3 in the tank now so if i keep them in and add the mp40 i should be good and still be able to get the wave motion

i have a mp40 blowing across the front of my 75g almost wide open, a tunze 6045 blowing across the back on the opposite side from the vortech, and a mag 9.5 running thru a sea swirl for my return. with all that, i think i have just enough flow in my 75g to keep my sps happy. with that in mind, your rock work will play a role in how flow is distributed thru your tank.
