The pumps ramp up, and down in a cycle. Not exactly sure how long each cycle takes(don't think it takes more then a few seconds?), but I run mine for 15 minutes after feeding. Seems to do the job for me.

Do you run yours manually? I have mine programmed in mid day and have to set a minimum of 1.5 hrs or it will not allow me to program the mode.

I see 1.5 hours referenced in many places, just not sure it originated from a legitimate source. I have 2 cycles set for the day, each 1 hour apiece after feedings, so this can be done, but not sure if 1 hour is too short.

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
