I have 2 that are nearly 3 years old and have not seen any rust or magnet swelling issues.
I clean them about every 7-8 months. Usually just with a tooth brush.
I did have to replace a wetside once when half of the prop broke off.

I have 3 MP10 and my original wetsides lasted 5+ years. My new model wetside shaft broke after 1 year.

When looking at them...they are made different...my old ones have a square below the shaft and the new ones a circle.

Maybe I was unlucky but not happy a new product broke so quickly.

I have not had any magnet issues.

I only soak them in warm water.

Where do you get it from?

Sorry I missed this earlier. This is the reagent grade HCl that I use:
It's not cheap but a little goes a very long ways when you dilute it.
When using concentrated acid, always remember: add acid to water, not water to acid.

Thanks @rkpetersen ! How much do you dilute it?

I had an old (about 5 years old) MP 10 that failed and I'm sure it was from using vinegar. The newer ones don't seem to be as problematic. My 4 MP's (two 40's, two 10's) are 8 years old.

Very much off the cuff.
I typically put about 3 gallons of water in a bucket and then add a 'dash' of HCl.
Probably about 100 ml or half a cup? That's enough.
While keeping the bottle at arm's length.
Don't inhale the vapor/smoke coming out of the bottle, it'll clear your sinuses out pronto.

Many issues have popped up with people cleaning them with vinegar because the seal will swell and then the vinegar penetrates into the metal and rusts. Using citric acid and not soaking for long periods of time is the best defense against rusting issues

LOL for sure. I use muriatic acid to lower pH in my pool and standing 3 ft above the water I still make sure I'm upwind when I poor it in...slowly. Still, high humidity days it makes a fog that will remove nose hair!

Any reason you can't use muriatic acid? Easy to get at Lowe's or Home Depot.

Quick question about the wet sides...I’m about to clean my MP10 for the first time using citric acid. Is it as simple as taking the one off the glass and putting the new/clean wet side on the glass to the motor? Should I turn off the MP10 when replacing the wet side?

Yes sir, need to turn the dry side off to replace. Also disassemble the wet side to be cleaned.

My 2 MP40 ES are rusted after a couple of years in the tank. When I detected the first one I stopped using them two years ago and both went in storage, replaced by Tunze. Now I have a new tank and want to use them. I discovered that the second one also got rusted during the storage. Both never cleaned in acids.

My questions:

-Is this replaced by Ecotech? In the posts, I see some lucky guys who managed, but other are being suggested by Ecotech to buy spare parts
-The new QD is any better? Or I will have the same issue again? I assume the new WD wet sides are compatible with the old ES dry sides
-Is there an official magnet or Ecotech is suggesting to replace all the full wet side? I see some plastic coated magnets for the vortechs, do not know if they are made by ecothec or by third parties https://www.aquafair.de/product_info.php/products_id/1530

Thanks!

I made a mistake in my last post and my broken wet sides are QD from 2015 (but used only a couple of years).

I am wondering if I should buy new wet sides or I will just sell the dry sides since I am not really trusting them. Are there new improved wet side QD versions or they are all the same?
