anyone that has the vossen trap I would love to know what the large circle is that in on the wall of one of the sides? I tried my first hatch with a clay pot and wasnt very successful. Thinking of getting one of these traps to try with the next batch of eggs.
thanks
Jeff

Are you talking about the round screen in the main holding area?

Is that what it is? Looks like a 3-4in circle on the side. Is it then some sort of sieve material? If so wouldnt all the water drain out of the trap when removed from the tank to transfer the fry.

The big circle on the side of the Vossen trap is the outflow screen. When you pull the trap out of the tank, water will drain through that screen, but it only drops down to the bottom edge of the mesh. It won’t empty completely. You’re left with a puddle of water in the bottom, and the larvae stay submerged as long as you keep the trap level.

If you end up using one, stick a suction cup at the bottom between the glass and the trap. Otherwise the fry can get wedged in there and won’t make it.

I actually decided to move the clay pot to the hatch tank. I moved it at day 10 which ended up being a day early so I ended up with only a dozen babies which I am down to only 3. Been a learning experience.
