Water level in an IM AIO

I have an IM Fusion Nano 20 that’s been running for a couple weeks and I’m wondering if I have not put enough water in it.

In the return chamber, how far below the baffle (the wall separating chamber 2 and chamber 3) should the water level be maintained for optimal performance? Does the water need to have a good free fall of a few inches, or should it only have a short drop?

I keep mine pretty high so that it doesn't dry out the return chamber quickly in case the ATO malfunctions.

When you shut off your return pump you will know if you have to much water in it.
If you turn on the return pump and it runs dry you have to little water in it,
I put my IM 15 AIO outside and ran fresh water in it and played around with the different amounts of water to dial it in.

I set my IM 20 up so the water falls a couple of inches down into the return chamber. I had it too high at first and I was getting a nasty protein slick in the back chamber.
