I was able to get a 55 gallon barrel for free. It had car wax in it. It's a white plastic barrel. I took it to a car wash and pressure soap'd it then pressure rinsed it out, then took home and bleached it with bleach water and letting it dry right now. Does anyone have info on concerns of it leeching into the rodi water?

I would look for something food safe, that didn't have soap/car wax or other questionable things in it. But that's my opinion . Awhile back there were blue drums available in my area, from a pickle factory. Something along those lines would probably be a better safer alternative.

Not sure...it cane from a car dealership and had car wax in it...I power washed with soap and power rinsed and then bleached it to be safe...I don't feel any residue at all in the barrel

mix up some saltwater in it, then send it in for a triton test?

Well from research online, hdpe2 is fine and will not leach anything into water

I find it interesting that no one is worried about soap residue. Did something change in the hobby lately that it's ok to use soap on tank stuff?

I'd have to agree with that as long as it was cleaned and serilized. I also grow mushrooms (fungi) an we use a lot of containers that are hdpe2 also because they can be autoclaved and don't keep funk in them.

I can't speak to your barrel that contained car wax, but FWIW, my blue 55g mixing barrel contained either photographic fixer or developer (it's been so long I forget which). I rinsed it well and put it in service. About 30 years ago. AFAIK, it's never been an issue.

mine are 55 gallon drums that contained vinegar from Brown Foreman Distillery .. You can get them Quite easily here ..
