So this came today so I figured I should start my slow build thread. PXL_20201121_183053613.MP.jpg PXL_20201121_185210596.jpg

I just put in a big (for me lol) order last night for all my startup stuff from saltwateraquarium.com.

Tomorrow I'm picking up a used 20g cube and canister filter to use for my staging tank and eventually QT.

When the rock gets here I will try to build a central rock structure for bubble tips.

For stocking plans I only want anemones (bta and maybe rock flowers) and clowns(black ice and snowflake I think)

I have no plan yet for cuc yet.

I do plan on filter cup with floss and chaeto in the center with five light.

I haven't decided on the stand yet, mostly because I'm trying not to spend $300+ on the waterbox one.

I am planning on running a new breaker and single gfci to power this. It will be in the spot next to my tv tower, about where this box is 16059903950231034050528791404490.jpg

Hopefully my rocks and sand come before Thanksgiving so I can start working on the rocks and maybe get wet before the weekend is over.

Right now I'm hoping to catch a nero 3 on sale, and in stock somewhere soon.

Will order kraken feed lid next week, hopefully on sale too.

Waterbox with light was about $400

14 piece order from swa was $500

QT tank and filter $75

I'll be using premixed salt from lfs @ $1/gal.

Nice! I’ve been wanting to try the waterbox, looks like a great tank. Good luck!
Thanks, I'm trying my best to go slow and do it right this time. My first attempt was taking over someone else's 120 that had a lot of issues to start with and I threw in the towel.

Nero 3 powerheads are all sold out so I've been looking around. I did find an open box mp10 for 230, more than I wanted to spend on a powerhead, but seriously considering the upgrade now. Having an extra wet side is a big upside. I could still buy 2 nero's for the same price too...lol too many options

I got a shipping notification from saltwateraquarium.com but no expected delivery date yet. I'll post pics when I get that opened up and start rock scaping.

That Nero 3 looks sweet! Wish it had been around last year when I got my Nero 5.
I'm trying to wait for saltwater aquarium.com to restock so I can use my gc and rewards.
Just got an exciting box in, my rocks and sand came.

Time to see if I can build my rocks cape. I think I got enough rocks........

I really wanted to go with the castley/cavernous look but had a hard time pulling it together. It always seemed to cluttered and I wouldn't have room for anything else.

I think this will give me some ice display spot for anemones and still have some cave looking spots.

Now if I can ever get a stand ordered I can start cycling.....

Decided I'm going to build my stand because I can't justify paying 300+ for a stand. I already have lots of scrap wood around so here's what I'm using now as a reference.

Nice! You don't happen to have a link to a how-to for that stand?
Hah, nope I'm just sketching and starting to screw together. I found some nice heavy pallet boards I had saved up that will work Nice for the frame. So far this is all I've got, testing the size out.

Looks great Matt! When are you going to put some water into that? :)
Thanks a lot!

Actually I put water in 2 days ago!

Dr Tim's one and only and Ammonia added.

Lights are now off, nero 3 in and running, just dealing with a little electrical issue now.

Yayyyyy! Ah, the clowns will take care of the electricity, being the good sports they are. ⚡:) For what it is worth, Dr. Tims didn't really do much for me (two bottles' worth). But many others have reported success with it, so I will wish that you fall into that group. If not, take a look at Fritzyme TurboStart (900 I think?) which is always kept refrigerated (probably more important here in Florida).

I'm reading a lot of ammonia, should I be testing everything else now or start checking the rest after 2 weeks and a water change?

Ammonia is really the guy you need to keep in check below 5ppm or so for the bacteria's sake (even once fish are in the tank.....Read Randy Holmes-Farley's article on Nitrite and throw your NO2 test kit away). I wouldn't worry about anything else until you have ammonia in check.

I have read a lot on here and some of it has stuck lol. My alert badge shows .05 ammonia, and my API test days closer to 8 so I'm just keeping notes and trying to learn something lol.

I started a thread to get my cycle and am following the directions they gave me. Basically add half the Dr Tim's one and only, ammonia and some flakes, let it run 7 days. Then add the rest of the bottle, on day 15 full WC and should be cycled.

Cord management in process lol. The board next to it will be the door eventually. I plan on getting some hanging baskets to hold test kits and other junk.

I'm waiting to hear back about 2 frostbite clownfish from an online shop that does extra treatment, but not willing to pay the extra$50/each for full QT treatment. If that isn't goi g to work my lfs said they can try to get me a couple in and if I'm not happy with them I'm not required to purchase.

So that means I'll be doing my own QT in a 10g I picked up. I've got about all my extra rock in the tank now so I can set up QT with cycled rock and foam for the filter.

It's a struggle running this with no lights and no living creatures lol, but I'm sticking to the plan.
