Should be ready to get the thing filled this weekend what do I do about the sand ? What’s the best way to rinse it? I think I used live sand last time and didn’t realize I bought dry ?

Put it in a bucket and hose it till the water turns clear.
Normal water will be fine, if you want you can do the last run with some RO water.

Any input would be greatly appreciated been reading a lot about the woes of cycling with dry rock and it’s scaring me…

Personally i would try and add some live rock in just for the diversity.

Introducing Silicates or any other heavy metals that might be in the tap water - but it would be such a small amount it should be fine (think 1% of total water volume in the tank)

I guess it depends on how much RO i had on hand, hopefully someone with more experience with this can comment.

all jobs in the thread show 99% of sand rinsing is in tap water and only the last 1% is ro, to flush out the tap

check some examples from the thread

its not like there isn’t sixty pages of work examples on file to read

did we have diatom outbreaks in the sixty pages of works, or any problems?

Rinsing with tap water should be sufficient in my opinion. Shake the excess water from the sand before putting it in the tank.
Remaining silicates will still be beneficial to the reef tank. Diatoms might feed on this, but that is all part of the cycle that each tank goes through.
Adding some live rock as suggested before, will speed up the bacterial population count.

Can I add to the aquarium after rinsing even tho I’m not adding water till Sunday ?

How is the plumbing of the fleece filters coming along? Looks like a tight space, but might be just the angle of the picture.

There is not really much pluming if any at all you do not have the plum the drain directly into the roller like others they just replace the filter socks so I am interested to see how they work going to try to not run them master slave as I don’t really feel that they will necessarily clog at the same time we shall see but

Did rinse half of the sand yesterday took a good 7 hours of repositioning the hose and stirring the sand for it to stop making milky water so def happy I rinsed it
