Well I am starting my first build thread at first to achieve that shiny build thread badge but i now see how sharing this information may genuinely help others in their future tank builds as I already know things I wish I had known before I started this one!

A tiny background...I am beyond blessed to be able to do what I love full time. I have for many years bred freshwater fish discus, angels, exotic pleco’s and have a 52 tank freshwater room that has been a joy to have! When I decided to start a reef room the setup was very minimal as I had more than adequate RO/DI systems, lines and storage tanks already setup plus an empty room adjacent to the freshwater room. This will be the 6th saltwater tank in the Reef Room which already has a Cadlights Artisan, 125 long, 2 side by side AIO’s and a 40 breeder that I already had drilled. The Cadlights tank I bought second hand so this is the first “name brand” tank I’ve bought brand new. I’ve never owned a Red Sea Reefer.

I purchased the tank from
The Waterbox website and it was delivered in an extremely timely manner although I happen to want a tank that wasn’t on back order. I chose the 85.3 due to the dimensions being perfect for the space I had available. The smaller size was too small and the larger size wouldn’t have fit. I also did not get their lighting option as I like to play around with that kind of thing on my own. Currently my plans are to run AI LIghts with supplemental T5. I do have radions over one of my tanks but I genuinely like the AI with T5 results that I’ve had.

The tank was delivered via UPS freight on September 21st. I was not able to start on it right away as California has had some issues with political and Natural disaster issues at the time.

The packaging on the tank and stand was superb there was absolutely no cracks dings or shifts during shipping and I was genuinely impressed with the quality of Materials used to ship the Tank.

I will continue to post with each step along the way... thanks for tanking a look!

Cabinet was assembled and Sump was installed. I can say that as of now my one issue with Waterbox is their instructions on cabinet assembly and related support on the topic. It is easy enough to do if your familiar with cam locks and such but they are assuming too much out of their customers. If my wife(who is also an avid reefer) was single and bought this tank she would have been over the top livid with their instructions and information. Their informational videos are also lacking as they seem to just show a staff member assembling a cabinet without mentioning the steps or giving much audible advice. If your not confident with your handyman skills then I strongly strongly strongly suggest a different cabinet or have someone ready to build it for you. The quality is very nice just what you would expect From such a company. It took me an hour from start to finish to build the cabinet. It’s daunting to start with the huge amount of hardware and zero instructions your presented with.

So gear has been ordered and some has started to arrive the initial return pump (upgrading after taxes) is installed. A Simplicity DC pump... it’s going to move the amount of water I need! the lights will be here tomorrow two AI hydras for starters I’m a fan of hybrids so T5’s may follow in some capacity at a later date.

We are considering this tank! I love the height of it because I'm short but can still reach in it. We would be using it as a display though. Not a frag tank. Following along to see progress and your build. :)

i know it’s been a while a loss in the family stalled things for a while. I am back in the driver seat now and things are finally moving forward with this new frag tank my existing frag system is so stuffed it makes me cry with anxiety. so i picked up the dry rock (yes i’m going with dry) and Dr Tim’s 1 and Only. i also snagged a 300w finned heater the Octo Classic 150-S infernal Skimmer and 4 Kamoer X1 Dosing Pumps which will
be for part 1 part 2 aminos and a spare for now. no lights yet i was going to go with hydras but i may now do a Noopsyche T5 Hybrid as i am a big fan of LED T5 combo. i have what i need to start the cycle which im
doing today i will post pictures of the gear in the tank shortly. rock will be in the sump only the display area will be egg crate which i may go out and buy right now from Home Depot.

have a great day!

So Life has gotten in the way a bit. I am still moving forward with this build but I haven’t taken the time to post the pictures and updates here like I should have. I am going to post updates to try and catch the thread up without making it to messy. I apologize for the lack of commitment on this but I will get it at least readable and sense making here shortly.
