Wave maker for a 25g lagoon

Need to add a wave maker to my tank. It’s a softie/lps tank. Looking for ideas for a wave maker from anyone that has experience with this tank. I just don’t want to get anything that’s going to be to powerful even if I turn it down. Also if you have a wave maker where did you put it. I know it depends on how your scape is set up but just general idea. Thanks for any responses.

I would do a ecotech mp10. And as stated depends on your aquascape but I would place it on either side on the tank and adjust flow and settings you want thru the mobius app. There are many preprogrammed user programs on there and try accordingly. Also no wires in the tank. Happy reefing

I looked at the mp10 but thought even in the lowest setting that it might be to strong. Do have this pump

I have 2 on my Red Sea e170 max and 3 on one of my 60 gallon frag tanks and love them. There are several pumps out there like AI nero3 you can do the smallest Jebao/jecod pumps etc. is price an object for you. But over my first pic would be a MP10. My opinion would be perfect even at its lowest setting.

I looked at the nero3 but that didn’t go as low a gph on its lowest setting as the mp10 and jeboes Im a little Leary of because of the mixed reviews. Thank you for your response

I have the UNS 90L, which is 36”x12”x12”. Flow was pretty tricky to work out, especially with just one pump. I started out with a single MP10 on one end, and as you might imagine, flow was strong on the end with the wave maker, and pretty weak at the far end. For me, even the lowest setting seemed a bit strong near the wavemaker and being on the lowest setting didn’t give much variation during its pulsing cycles. With more coral in the tank to restrict flow, this may be less of a problem.

I didn’t really want to get a second MP10 for the opposite end since they are so pricey, but I ended up doing it after struggling with the flow for a while and wished I’d gotten it sooner. To help get the overall flow rate down, I designed and 3D printed a new nozzle that would be more restrictive, and that has worked nicely. With the 2 pumps at opposite ends and the lower overall GPH, I can turn the percentage up to get more variation without it being too strong.

I just received two Jecod/Jebao GLW-10 wavemakers (1056 gph) to replace a couple that were a bit too powerful for my 25g lagoon. They're Nero style pumps that put out a very wide flow. They've got wifi and bluetooth connections, do all the modes/programming that you would expect, and are only $45 each. The downsides are that you have to order from China, and the mounts only really allow angled mounting (which you can kind of see in my photo). I'm really happy with them otherwise.

My tank is only 24 inches across so do you think it would reach the other side but be too strong near the pump

An MP-10 is not too big for a 25 gallon tank, many use that pump on 10 and 15 gallon tanks. I have two Jebao DMP-10's in a 25 Lagoon, they are more or less the same output as an MP-10.

Wha do you have them set at and where did you place them in your tank

My setup is a little different for this tank, but I have them both on the left side of the tank, and I run them basically full blast. I do have a bare bottom tank though too, so no worries about sand blowing around.

Not much currently as this tank had some issues and I removed what I had, but I had been keeping mostly SPS, that's the plan for this tank. You could keep anything else, and just turn down the wave pumps of it's too much flow for them. You want a lot of flow in a saltwater tank

I guess the only way to know is to try. If it works great if it doesn’t you try something else. Isn’t that the way this hobby works. Trial and error,hopefully not a lot of errors. Thanks for the help

Yes, flow would take some trial and error. Take a look at the Jebao DMP pumps, try one or two of the 10's, and I think you'll be happy

This is why I like Nero style pumps for small tanks like this. The wide flow moves a large volume of water with lower velocity than other pumps. The top right Acro in my photo above is directly in front of the pump 6" away, and its polyps are extended.

Do you have any problems with the Nero pump’s I’ve read mixed reviews on them
