I bought this duncan today and i’m fairly new to the hobby, is this behavior normal? It went back down but i’d like to know if this means anything

I’d give it a couple of days to sort itself out.

I’d give anything I add to the tank 12-24 hours to act normal.
Sometimes longer and sometimes sooner of course.

maybe post a pic? I assume from your post that you went to the LFS to get it, generally corals will open up within a few hours

My Duncan has been closed up for over a year, still alive and just now is starting to emerge testing the water. Hard to believe it is still alive. Seven years ago I bought it was only 1 or 2 heads, then 12. Closed up for quite awile when I started having problems with the water quality, so I split it up and gave some away hoping someone will help it. Well the one head I did keep is starting to emerge. Go figure. It can survive for over a year without coming out to feed, very interesting. Be patient with yours.
