Cool sump dweller...discovered tonight. 071597CD-5401-45D7-8665-FBA852424742.jpeg 1CFD5A14-A923-43A5-86CB-AF19B42C0C3F.jpeg A75F7063-E678-4F07-A96C-A7847E476743.jpeg
Guess the phyto dosing, regular turkey basting detritus and high nitrates/phosphates paying off.

I added 2 more WAVs and really happy with them. Sold the gyre.
ALD sensed a small leak in the water supply line yesterday, worked great, maybe should order few more!
Caught the blue tang terror with a TankMatez trap in 1 day. It is the only trap for me now! Superb.
Going to be adding more live sand to the display...TBS sand.
Wondering how old a Ball of Death can live?

I decided to order some wrasses from TSM to aid in a flat worm problem.
Folks rave about TSM, so early September I dropped $500+ On a preordered list.

Mid October I hadn’t heard from them so emailed. They said had trouble getting coris wrasses would be middle November.

Then their cofounder passes away unexpectedly. I emailed and said it’s ok to take more time if needed with my order.

Yesterday I emailed asking if they have a ship date and was informed they don’t have the yellow strip possum pair...but could give me a gift card.

I saw my possums on their site a month ago (when my preordered ones would be out of Qt..) and thought they must have a lot of possums, but no, those were mine.

Yeah, I’m ticked.

9/4 $500 paid for preordered fish
11/24 I have no fish + they sold my possums and have none left for me that I paid for 2 months ago. Offered me a gift card and will send rest of my order next week.

HoHum.

Tank has been on auto pilot lately.
Calcium consumption increasing, phosphates increasing.
Alk, mag and nitrates holding stable.

The fish and corals are getting bigger, and the tank is getting smaller.

I’m bummed about a neon yellow softy that I’m losing. Darn. Going to try fragging what pieces I can reach.

The slimer forest is out of control.

Oh and the 2 rbta are absolutely huge! HUGE Caroline! So had the original 10yrs ago. It has split, split, split and spawned many times. I would give away or sell the extras. But now it is growing and not splitting. Yesterday one was a good 18” and touching a nice Fox Flame colony and Favia bolder. I have them pretty hidden behind the aquascape.

Any thoughts on what I can do better or change are always welcome.

Glad most things are doing well! Sorry to hear about the yellow leather though. It's always a bummer to lose something like that. Hopefully you can grow it out again with the frags! Happy 2022, @Wen!

Tank updates:
Moved yellow leather next to a powerhead in the fuge, high flow and bright light. It’s very happy! 4EDEACA6-5275-4897-9599-F098755D5A79.jpeg
McCullochi pair is laying eggs regularly and despite the menacing chompers, they are not aggressive.
Slimer struggles. The base isn’t receiving enough flow and with less light, it dies off. While the top is happy the bottom is an eye sore. Contemplating a slimer deforestation and reset. Thoughts?

OHH and I have turned Off the uv. The chiller runs less and I’m thinking the uv is not helping my struggle with a few patches of cyano. Going to go no uv and add 50lbs ocean harvested live sand. Let’s see what happens.

Emptied tank of inhabitants, moved them and relocated into temporary accommodation. Unfortunately not 1 LFS would assist, so it was me and hubby. Huge undertaking to say the least. 500+lbs rock, 15 fish, huge colonies to frags, rbtas… 12 hour removing inhabitants.

Temporary holding is a 300 gal Rubbermaid trough. Cycled with water from Tampa Bay, dirty sand and 50lbs of sump rocks from 280.

Couple months later, we moved the 280 with the help of a furniture moving company, again no LFS would consider the job. This was another long day digging out 200lbs of sand and salvaging 3’ of gsp that covered the back walls.

The empty 280 was loaded into our trailer and is still sitting in the trailer waiting for a new local aquarium service company to move it into the house.

Life support has been a major commitment. No apex dosing, no sump, no massive amounts of water flowing, 50% less light fixtures.

Surprisingly, all is going very well! Corals are growing and fish are loving the big round pond!

I’ve taken the opportunity of downsizing our housing to upsizing my hobby. Hahaha!

A guest bathroom is in the process of becoming the new location of the 280gal and a new 170gal. The new “tanks’ room” will house the aquariums, a huge sump and all equipment. We have cut 2 holes in the bathroom (tanks’ room) wall that look into the living room.

Something I’m really excited about is the orientation of the two peninsulas. Viewers will peer into the end of the tanks. Yep, it’ll be a long view!

I’m squeezing a ton of stuff into this space. The walk-in shower now houses a sink, rodi and nsw reservoirs, plus the skimmer. A small closet is home to the apex system and supplies.

It has been a ton of work so far!
