when I first stated I went to my lfs and been using an aquatic life 4 stage RODI unit. I replaced 3 out of 4 of the canisters and still getting 6-8 tds. I’m beginning to realize that this unit isn’t the best. What should I get instead? I have a 125 gal tank with 40 gal sump.

I have the aquatic life 4 stage 100gpd but addded the BRS triple DI saver to upgrade my usable quantity of resin and to cut down on waste. I now have 6 stages soon to be 7 once I fill my empty canister. This has a pressure gauge, auto shut off, and purge valve for the membrane. Amazon $149

How old is your membrane?

How much water have you run through it?
Couldn’t tell you an amount. Lots of water. I do weekly water changes of about 15 gallons. Plus top off water. I recently got a 55 gal QT that I filled up.

I thought the membrane was supposed to be changed every year

The BRS 7 stage RODI system will save you money by allowing you to use 100% of your resin. If your pressure at the RO membrane is low, add a pump and you're done. You could go cheaper but you'll either have higher DI resin cost or TDS in your water.

What is your TDS from the wall?(before membrane) have you filled a clean container and. Tested the water in that? I was having similar issues due to salt. Residue in my barrels.

What do you mean? I have my rodi water in a trash can with a lid. It’s made of plastic not sure if that will make a difference. I tested the tds of the water that’s going into my unit. It reads 120s that’s before it goes into the unit if that’s what your asking. I don’t mix my salt near where I keep my rodi unit or where I store the water.

What’s the recommended time to replace these resin

Another thing to consider is the source water you are starting with. Does your city use chloramine? If you call BRS they can help you pick the rite unit. I like the 150Gal water saver option that uses 2 x 75gal membranes.

If I were him I would do what I did and just add the BRS triple DI saver for $89

More than likely the Catanion side of your mixed bed resin is exhausted.

For $89 you’ll get this at BRS (1) anion resin (1) catanion resin (1) mixed bed resin, a three way TDS meter. Everything you’ll need.
