That's usually my first response to anything unidentified, whether it's in my tank or outside my home :D I once poked a 4 foot water moccasin with a stick after I found its tail sticking out of a bush ;Hilarious

Those look at lot like some cup corals I got as hitchhikers, especially since the base is calcified. In which case - cool!
