But they don't come out and I have some poking out other holes as well? I tried to pop out late at night and flashlight but they just stay there permanently. Will brittles live in a hole indefinitely??

I have a rock that's home to micro brittle stars that looks just like that, little stripy tendrils. I've never seen anything other than their arms sticking out of the holes. I was happy to see them since I'd tried to save the ones who ended up dipped from my various frags!

I have a bunch but was never familiar with ones like this. Wanted to make sure it wasn't something bad. Feeling better about them now.
Great cleanup crew and when they find a good rock to stay in, all you’ll see are their arms reaching for scraps as soon as you start feeding.

Brittles will take up permanent residence In a hole, in fact most of them will never move from where they are in my experience, are they're a different amount of arms out every day?

I bet if you pick up a rock you'll find a few attached to the bottom... when I moved my rocks over from my old tank to the new one, I did some algae removal on a few by spraying with H2O2... I was amazed at how many brittle stars evacuated the rocks! They were everywhere, lol. (I used the H2O2 on small parts of the rocks... It can definitely kill the stars if you're not careful)
