What are these white dots?

I noticed these white dots today. They are only on the left side of my tank where an astrea snail has been hanging out all day. They feel kind of hard and will crumble in your fingers but are easy to remove with just a rub of the finger.

Nothing to worry about. probably got them from buying live rock. If you look real close they have little like feather duster that catch stuff in the water. can't remember the name at the moment for some reason.
 
Oh cool. No new live rock actually I started with dry rock and have never added anything else. Could they have came in on a snail or chaeto? I haven't added anything in over a month but those would be the most recent additions (particularly the chaeto).
 
If I knock them off the glass with a glass scraper will they die or will they latch onto something else and spread?

They spread a lot, I honestly don't like them because if they get caught under a magfloat they can scratch the glad
