I have an Oase on my 20 gallon Nano. I highly recommend one. It's at least as quiet as any Eheim I've ever owned. Personally, I'd go minimum 350 (or bigger) if your cabinet can accommodate it. Canister filter flows are rated without media, so cut the flow rate in half with whatever they advertise.
I don't know flow rate . I use a Fluval 307 on my 45 only. I also use the same on my 100 but with a sump. I know some people use 2 of the same no sump for their 100
The guy I mentioned just fills one with Rock only . InterestingI used a Fluval 407 on my 75 gallons and was very satisfied. It was freshwater though.
I ran an Eheim 2213 on a 29 gallon reef for 5 years, tried rock rubble but it severely cuts the flow rate down. You really just need sponge/floss filter in a canister, your rocks are your biological mediaThe guy I mentioned just fills one with Rock only . Interesting
I am unaware. The Fluval I mentioned has included sponge filters. As far as reduced flow I wish the aforementioned guy would chime in , In my case having adequate flow from my sump . I would not be concerned about flow if I am getting excellent contact time with the rock that converts the unwanted chemicals and nutrients. I even would consider sand . Sand is even worse. The point of the filter is to take out particulate, your rocks provide all the area beneficial bacteria need.I am unaware. The Fluval I mentioned has included sponge filters. The Fluval People have Activated Charcoal Ammonia media. Water clarifying Media Phosphate pads Nitrate And Nitrate pads as well as other bagged or Bulk Media . I would consider that a refugium if you will.Sand is even worse. The point of the filter is to take out particulate, your rocks provide all the area beneficial bacteria need.
The fluval people have all kinds of disposable stuff you can buy. Thank you for your response. Yes I am leaning towards an oase thermo. I also see people saying they toss rocks in there. I know better to do that after watching a few people on YouTube with them and their reef tanks.I have an Oase on my 20 gallon Nano. I highly recommend one. Just a head's up: any minute now the "I've never ran a canister filter, but I am an expert on canister filters" police are going to chime in despite your request to the contrary. These people can't help themselves.
Second, someone is also going to suggest filling the trays with live rock. My suggestion, don't. You want maximum surface area that tumbles in the trays. Oase already did this for you with their proprietary media that comes with every canister filter they sell.

Hi Grog ,I've run canister filters in the past, on various marine tanks, and the larger Fluval filters do the job great. The FX4 was what I ran on my last 75-gallon tank.
I see they have a FX6 now and I'd probably go with that if it was my choice. May want to check footprint though and make sure it fits your space. The FX series are not small pieces of gear. They are double the size of the 307/407 filters.
I think you meant Fluval instead of 'ducal'... And assuming that was the question. I didn't find Fluval filters loud at all. For me fans on light fixtures are way louder. But YMMV.Hi Grog ,
Are the ducal canister filters Loud ?
You bet!Thank you for your response. Yes I am leaning towards an oase thermo. I also see people saying they toss rocks in there. I know better to do that after watching a few people on YouTube with them and their reef tanks.
I had to add that disclaimer because I had notice on social media people just want to comment and not even read what I asked lol. I remember I asked about a light and someone was like “get soft coral they are nice” it had nothing to do with my question about lighting![]()
