What do you do if your floor is not perfectly level?

I'm setting up my All-Glass 180 and I got a wood stand. The floor is out of level 1/4" over 6 feet from left to right. Fine front to back. Should I try to shim the tank or the stand? Or just not worry about it?

Just bugs me that most of the flow is going to 1 overflow.

cardboard under the low corner worked for me.

Shim the stand, you want constant support under the tank. If you would shim the tank you would have gaps on the tank with no support.

cedar shims under the stand to level.

Use the plastic/composite shims, they will not shrink, compress or expand.

I should have built the stand. My last one had levelers. Momma wanted a nice wood stand this time though.

When leveling a tank you always want to shim between the floor and stand...never!!!! I mean never shim between the the tank and stand it is a disaster waiting to happen.....also don't try to compensate with styrofoam between the tank and stand either....very few glass tanks are built the way acrylic tanks are where the sides are glued on top of the bottom, if this is the case foam should only be used as a cushion it really won't help level any un even surface out unless were talking a thousands of a inch or something....if you decide to leave it not only will the overflow be more than the other like you mentioned but that little bit adds a tremdous amount of pressure on the lowside of the tank where it could cause the joint to fail.....hth...troy..;)

You can get a pack of tapered wooden shims at Lowes or HD in the doors and windows area. Shim under all load bearing surfaces or uprights, usually the corners and the middle. I get it close with the tank empty, add a inch or two or water, adjust the shims then monitor how level it stays and adjust the shims as it fills all the way up. Once full you can snap or trim the excess shims off so they are flush with the stand edge.

I agree with everyone else - shim the stand. We did that with ours as the floor was just a bit out of level. Once the stand is level you'll be good to go.
