What do you look for in a chalice?

This is a question I often think about,since im a chalice addict:bigsmile:. I was wondering what other addicts look for when searching for a chalice frag or colony.

The top thing I always seem to be drawn to ,with chalices, is odd colored rims with differant color eyes. Exs. Green rim and yellow eyes or blue rim and green eyes...

Some people ive talked to like smooth skin chalices,some like the bright ones,some like the solid colors,some like stripes, what do you like to see on a chalice?

1)Color
2)Rim
3)Rarity

Thats what I look at,even though I have common pieces,I like the rare ones better.

I like the mashed up color varietys and ones with BIG bold color eyes. Ones like the WWC Rainbow magic, Widowmaker, UC Hellfire, the SC unreleased teaser with the rainbow eyes

I think my problem is the second I see a chalice is the second I start reaching for my wallet to realize.........there is 8 dollars and 2 quarters in it:sad:

what I look for in chalices? I like to look for free frags of chalices from my buddys tank, , the free ones seem to do better in my tank, lol

Chalices are definitely a favorite coral type of mine. I like to look for contrasting colors in the rim and body and eyes. I also enjoy some texture to the body and when the chalice plates out as it grows larger.

Yea I think that is another reason for my addiction, there is not another coral with the same colors and growth patterns as chalices.

Most chalice are nice.... This is a given

The real stunners are the ones that have a truly defined rim...for me its the watermelons

I either like the graphic contrasting colors like ME's and WM's, or the "sprinkled" looking ones like OS, wildfire, litebright, etc. Occasionally a brightly solid colored one will strike my fancy. I tend to avoid the "psychedelic" mottled kinds.

Rims, stripes, etc are ok, but I feel like the pattern gets lost as the coral grows. They make great frag macro shots though :bigsmile:

Thanks ReefDoctor. That was one of my all time favorites. There is so many crazy corals these days that make that one kind of look plain but I still love that look. Color, rim, and big glowing eyes are kind of what I like to collect. Like you said about the watermelons.

LOL I look for 2 things, 1. Do I already have it and 2. Is it cheap!

I look for color contrast. You can have two of the same pieces same colors one brighter in contrast makes a world of difference. Second i look for if i have something close to it.
