What do you look for in a chalice?

Rainbow magic,one I need to get!

I think my problem is the second I see a chalice is the second I start reaching for my wallet to realize.........there is 8 dollars and 2 quarters in it:sad:

thats something that happens to the best of us.... I would say for looks in chalices you need the brights and also the randomness. most of the times tends to be the purples, pinks, and the blues with red, yellow, green or even orange eyes to mix with them.

Yea, I forgot to mention if im looking for named frags the "designer" names, I call them, attract my attention. I think I might be picking up some chalices 2mrw! My lfs said they are getting some nice ones in!

Either just really bright, nice contrasting colors, rim, and wether or not I can afford it.

Maybe this part is already a prerequisit by most chalice collectors but figured I would throw this out first,

- Ability to survive, and the ability to grow and hold its color in our Tanks is always a huge concern of mine when looking at new wild chalice colonys that hit the market.....

Then I think about the cool stuff like, Rim, Contrasting colors, Eye color, texture etc.

Good point^ That is the bad thing about buying colonies and some frags...Sometimes they look soo awsome for a month,but then their colors kinda mix,and your left with this mettalic shade of brown chalice.....

don't look that far away! there are really good sellers here with great corals! just got from a member two frags... My Miami and Crazy Fox, these are hard to find on a local fish store.

I'm looking for rim color combinations that haven't been seen before. There are a lot of green rim chalices. Less still orange and red rims with a little more red rims than orange rims. And then there are the blue rim chalices which generally do not stand out enough for me. There are pink rim chalices which can be nice and are not too common. There are gold body chalices with green rims out, around 3-5 i've seen. There have been a very few gold body chalices with other color rims. I have a gold with bright pink rim. I would say the rarest of the rim colors is the yellow. I've only seen a few that have been labeled as yellow rim but to me many of those rims aren't that bright yellow. This one is the only yellow rim I have seen that is actually very bright and solid yellow with a great contrast to the yellow eyes. And the pink is white/bright pink, most pink chalices are pink tips on a black or dark background like the other pinkish body chalices in the pics below. The thing is you could have two chalices with a green rim for example and one of the green rims might be way more bright than the other. Each chalice is different. Some pop more than others. Those are the ones I can stare at forever.

I look for health first and foremost, then color the brighter the better and location it was from in the wild... like to try and collect from several different areas and combine them in the 180 makes it look alot better I think
