Do any of you use your RODI for anything else besides your tank? I use mine for cleaning records. It works amazingly well, no residue. I am now looking for a recipe to make my own record cleaning solution. I would love to find out other things that you all use it for.

I also want to know this. I recently bought a 7-stage BRS system and was wondering if there was a nutrient solution or something I can add back to the RODI water to make it safe for the plants.

I use mine in my humidifier.

In my neck of the woods they add fluoride to our water. It turns everything pink! Clogs the humidifier in a couple days. Been using the RO/DI for the humidifier for a couple years now, and haven't had an issue since.

Nice orchids @Mike from TN ! Would have never thought to use the RO/DI to water them. Would have thought they needed the minerals in tap? But I can never get orchids to live long term either. Might have to try this next time my wife decides she wants another.

Thanks @homer1475
The water here, although it tastes good, is pretty horrible. We are the kidney stone capital of the world, LOL!
My wife and I learned a lot about orchids while in Costa Rica. Almost 1100 kinds grow wild there. Probably the purest, cleanest rain water falls on them daily.
I decided to give it a try and the outcome was pretty positive. I also feed them every 6 months with time release orchid fertilizer.
They are also under LED grow lamps from 6:00am until 6:00pm.

What got me to love orchids......

The orchid house at longwood gardens in Kennett square PA. The have some of the most beautiful orchids I have ever seen.

Although some of yours are a close second!
Just checked it out online. Looks like a pretty spectacular place.

It's good to see that you guys find other uses for it. I wish I still drank so I could try brewing beer with it. You could possibly make a much closer clone of several beers. You can find the water make up for certain beers. has anyone tried it?

I ran a line to my refrigerator for water/ice. Best Ice EVER for my (occasional?) scotch or bourbon. The wife refills her Keurig with the water so no stupid filters for it or the $40 filters for the fridge.

You use straight RODI for ice? That makes sense. It would freeze quicker and harder. Does it last longer? Have you ever tried those huge cube makers? Add a dash of bitters and some orange zest to them with a little simple syrup and you have a mild Old Fashioned. I made all kinds of fun ice cubes when I was bartending.

I use it to water and mist my orchid plants. They respond very well to it. There are so many minerals in the water in our area and I think the RO/DI is closer to the natural rain water they need. 5692941C-3FE3-422E-881A-22F96E27ACFF.jpeg 2D0824A3-3A73-4357-98E4-1ED8B4FF0ADD.jpeg C0BF8F40-D9CE-4880-9EAD-C3073CDC7931.jpeg 20DA62E3-ECCE-420C-BED2-08E8A26B1546.jpeg 3994997B-24FD-4900-BC49-0DC85DA4E59D.jpeg 9BAE2A05-3A6C-47DF-9E2E-ED5C02FD3994.jpeg AD1BA85F-0672-42AD-923A-5B6AEE16A36D.jpeg 492AC09E-5BAE-42A7-9D08-455FF6CF7C46.jpeg

Have you ever gone during their Orchid Extravaganza?!?
It's just about that time of year!!! I go every year. I'm about 45-60 min drive from there. I keep a membership there as we go several times a year :)
Longwood is what my idea of Heaven looks like.

Nope unfortunately never have been during that time, but would love to go. It's only an 8 hour drive one way for me.
