From what I have learned with my post,it is best to shoot in raw and do some post editing in Lightroom.

When I asked him about a gel filter last night, my buddy, who is a professional photographer, threatened to slap me. :)

He said the same thing. Shoot raw, post process.

I have not done any of this so he is going to have to teach me.

I was in World Wide Corals the other day, and I started taking pictures of some of their tanks with my cell phone. One of the employees pulled out an orange clip on filter and put it on my phone. It improved the picture dramatically. So while I can't give you a specific gel filter recommendation, I think something orange would be best. Please let us know what you end up with, as I would also like to get something for my DSLR.

If I shoot with my 6D I shoot in RAW and just use “curves” in photoshop and I lower the blue peak on the histogram until the picture matches what my eyes see. Takes me only a second or two to do and your left with a very clean picture that’s an accurate representation of what the coral looks like. (That being said, almost every picture I post is from my iPhone and an orange filter, because it’s quicker and more convenient to me. Plus I’m not trying to sell you any corals)

It’s not that tough, there’s some good pointers in the sticky, also great suggestions in the thread I made. Just give it a try, easier than it sounds.
