The banana hogs and candy cane are good choices in a decent size reef.

I have a customer with an izu hogfish it is a very cool fish. It dose great in the tank it is a 150 mixed reef.

There is also a deep water variety terelabrus candy cane hogfish they are beautiful and reef safe they are not common either.

My candy cane hogfish is definitely sassy. All the wrasse-type behaviors. If you like personality and can live with the rest, it’s a cool fish.

Started with saltwater tanks in 1973, so have had many different hogs in many different tanks. Almost always had a Cuban hog in one tank, currently have one in my new 500g 6'x5' softie reef. Always had better results with Cuban over Spanish. Peppermint and candy hogs seemed to be more aggressive than the Cubans, although they were usually 1/2 the size of the Cuban they chased and harassed more fish more often.
My current Cuban is in the tank with ~40 other fish, only a few larger than the hog, and there is no problems.

I've had two. A yellow candy hogfish and a Cuban hogfish. The candy was fine with corals and inverts. As it got larger, it started getting aggressive with smaller more docile fish. The Cuban was kept in a FOWLR and didn't have any issues with it though it was an aggressive feeder. Both are very beautiful and colorful fish.

I have a Diana's hogfish.

Had it since it was a n
Juvi. Now it's 5 inches.

Mean as hell. I want to remove it into the sump and add more wrasse then reintroduce... But I love its attitude lol.
