For years I used the Cobalt NeoTherm, then I heard about people having them burst in their tanks and that the Finnex Titanium heaters were the way to go. Looking to replace the Finnex I have as it is 4 years old but I wanted to see what people are using most commonly now. There are tons of different brands with positive reviews on Amazon and I see build threads of people still using the NeoTherms. I only run nano reefs so looking for something with a smaller form factor.

So, what heater do you use and which ones would you recommend?

I use whatever titanium heater I can find. The controller is much more important than the heater brand IMO. I have bought expensive and cheap heaters....they all die. Currently I am using a Bulk Reef Supply titanium controlled by an Apex.

I use Aqueon Pro. They have a built in thermostat and a shatter proof casing. I back them up with a controller. They usually last about two years.

Eheim jaeger with inkbird. Eheim uses bimetallic thermostat which imo, is less likely to fail with power cycling of the inkbird.

I use 2 x Fluval M series. Firm believer in 2 smaller heaters vs 1 perfect sized heaters.
Yes, forgot to mention we use 3 jaegers.
1. On all the time
2. Being controlled by inkbird
3. On if tank gets too cold, off when a little too warm, via apex.

If I could fit all of that into an AIO I would love the redundancy. I think heating and temperature regulation is one of the most critical, and often overlooked, aspects of the hobby.

Another vote for Eheim Jager TruTemp glass heaters here.
Inexpensive and have always worked well for me.
They're BIG for their wattage and temperature setting dial is clunky until you get it dialed in (if you care about that).

I run 2x 100W through Inkbird with Inkbird controlling temperature and heaters set a couple of degrees higher as fail-safe.
*pretty common setup

Two Eheim Jager's controlled by a ReefKeeper II. Their glass is twice as thick. The only negative is that they are long.

I think heater failure is one of the top reasons for tank crashes too.

I use Eheim heaters.
I purchased them because they seemed so highly recommended.

I run (3) 800w Finnex titanium heaters via Apex, and replace them annually in October.

I was originally using a PetSmart heater (or maybe it was from PetCo?). I wouldn't recommend, it didn't have any functionality to set the temperature and heated far beyond what it should have. I think it was an Aqueon heater.

My assumption is that their heaters just consistently produce heat without a technological guage for how warm it makes the water.

Irregardless, make sure and purchase good heaters for your buddies!
It makes a big difference and can help keep them safe.
