What is the perfect, all around, coral for a saltwater reef aquarium?

Zoas. Easy, colorful, cool patters, many to choose from, and easier to control, less likely to become a nuisance like other starter corals (some mushrooms, GSP, Xenia, etc..)

Even the highest end reefs still seem to always have a garden of zoas, the one coral that everyone seems to have.

two of them: toadstools because it is beginner friendly and beautiful, and hammers or frogspawn, they are a great beginner coral.

I agree with frogspawn. I love them but not just due to their care but their looks too. They can look so much like the safe version of a hellfire anemone if you just see the top of them and not the skeleton.

Me either! It is about the only thing I cannot keep alive. I have not solved the mystery yet.

You probably keep your tank too clean.

I would say Kenya trees, they come in many colors and they add a lot of movement to your tank. Plus they’re really easy
