What is the toughest fish?

We all make mistakes. Best to try and reduce them as much as possible but having fish that can handle it is also essential.

So what is the most bulletproof fish? What can handle:

1. Disease
2. Injury
3. Stress
4. Bullying
5. Parameters swings
6. Parameter extremes
7. Drunk uncle Eddy deciding he wants fried fish at 2am on Thanksgiving
8. Etc

Clownfish for sure! They can definitely live in toilet water lol! But at the end of the day no fish is bulletproof. And a lot of it comes down to the care or knowledge or lack of on the owner’s part!

Had a Valentini puffer once. It was smarter than me. After watching it treat my snails and hermits like a Sizzler buffet one too many times, I went and did my best to get that fish outta my reef, and failed all too often. So Drunk uncle Eddy will have a tough time with one of those, but crap aside, not sure if there bullet proof.

I find the plushy fish to be very tough!

Clownfish, damsels seem to be very resilient. It's terrible as they were used to cycle aquariums. Until we advocated for better starting methods.

The fish I wrote this for and it shocks me is Foxfaces. For me they seem to shrug off diseases that quickly kill similar fish, they are massive cowards but the spines stop the bullying and though they stress out easily they also seem to calm down and recover fast.

I had one freak out while I was doing middle of the night maintenance (snail stuck in powerhead) jump clean out of my 6 foot tall tank and smack hard against the tile floor. Was not fun getting it back In the tank but it was fine.

Foxface have that slime coat they also shed. At least mine did very often.

Ghost. She came injured to me right out of the shipping bag, she survived an ich outbreak, has jumped out of my QT tank twice; last time she got tangled in cords and got cut super bad. Shes bounced back every single time! All my eels have but the two injures she has gotten make her a straight up warrior!

Ive got a longnosr hawkfish that broke its upper jaw somehow at a 90 degree angle and it hasnt fazed it. Sometimes it does miss a piece if food, but it still acts tough and tends to be the tank boss. Have a trigger and tang coming next week so that may change.

Clownfish of course, but then Mandarins. I know many people can't keep them but If your tank is old enough and not cleaned to death, these fish don't get diseases, don't get stressed, other fish don't want to eat them and live about ten years and you don't even have to feed them.
