I’ve been running this 15-gallon macroalgae tank with a pair of clownfish for about 7 months now. I do 15–20% water changes every week and feed carefully. Despite that, a slimy film has started covering all my macroalgae, the sandbed, and the rocks. I’m running activated carbon and Biofil by Aqua Forest. My lighting is an AI Prime 16, running for 11 hours a day.

What is this, and what should I do about it?

Here are my water parameters from today:
  • Salinity: 1.025
  • Nitrite: 0
  • pH: 8
  • Temperature: 25.5 °C / 77.9 °F
  • Ammonia: 0
  • Nitrate: 0
  • Phosphate: 0
I’d really appreciate any help or advice you can give .

thanks in advance!

Do you have any powerheads in the tank? Its possibly a low-flow issue, slime was growing on my macro algae until I added a second powerhead to the tank

Zero nitrate & zero phosphate is a recipe for dinoflagellates & Cynobacteria. Gravel vac the slime up and get your nutrients up.

Eeek add some flow, but more importantly add some nutrients ! If i were you id black out for a whole day to kill these algae’s than run ur light scheduled 5-6 hours max a day while you reestablish your nutrients. You need nutrients to feed to good guys who will fight off these bad boy bacteria
