I put a tang in my tank about a week ago. Looked healthy and nothing wrong with it. Now there appears to be a brown sore on hi back and my clownfish has brown spots on him too. Any clue? Diagnosis or treatment? Tang seems fine. Clown is breathing heavy. If REEF2REEF would let me post a pic I would. But for some reason it won't let me

Yeah that seems to be a current issue. If you get to a lap top try using explore to post images.

So first you're going to need the basic values for nitrates and test for ammonia while your at it.

You're going to need a QT set up, treatment will depend upon disease process going on.

At least looks at this link so you can match what you're seeing with the possible illness

Further assistance should be along shortly to offer more specifics.

Black ich is possible. I wish you could get the pictures to post.

Without pictures I could see 3 possibilities. That would be black ich if the spots are fairly small and raised. Another possibility would be an internal parasite causing a skin reaction. Both of these could be treated with Prazipro.
It is possible that it is a bacterial infection, also. Those are a bit more tricky to treat.

Do you have a QT you can put them in?

No I do not. I tried to catch both fish earlier before work for a fresh water dip and they were being a pain. I have kick ich in the closet and started dosing that. Not sure if it will help but figured it might be better than nothing.

It won't hurt anything, but I suspect it wont help.

Do they look like this?

Yes that is exactly what it looks like except on my clown! And no there is nothing in the tank that could sting. The tang is a Kole tang and the spot is probably about 1/2 cm on his upper rear back.

Not even a nem for the clown? Sometimes a sting from one of those can cause Hyper-Melanization:

If you look closely at the photo above, Hyper-Melanization looks more like a small smudge on the fish. Now below is a photo of a YT with turbellarians (Black Ich); notice how the spots are smaller and raised:

Nope. No nem. Looks just like black ich. How would I go about curing it?

Prazipro should work to clear it. And it is one of the few medications that is safe to use in your DT as long as you don't have worms or feather dusters.
