What is your coral setup, specifically around sps?

Should also state that the coral you keep can appreciate that as well. Finicky things like higher end acros can make that much more difficult to sustain.
I keep mid range acros. Not easy stuff like Monti. Not smooth skins or deep water.

Right in the middle. That’s where I fall. Will state I have not attempted the super sensitive or high end sticks, so I technically don’t know where my limitations land.

I'm more like every 2 weeks these days. I guess I'll just hang outside the box for now.
YUH no room for 2 weekers!

I had a few growing colonies before my second pregnancy. Everytime I wanted to see the acros grow. I did multiple water changes. The colors were amazing, the growth was very visible.

Oddly, the hammer corals and bta did not show any difference at all. They have been the more difficult to grow in that time span. Now my tanks an absolute mess... And I have a bunch of gold tip hammers all over the place... Not even my softies like me, except my red shroom. :(

Things are calming down, and I spy some pretty sps at the lfs....

OHH right, I saw some was it jawbreaker acro at the sbb sale? I am very interested. But, currently gotta get my skim together here.

That's good detritus right there! I'm putting that one in my pocket.
Hey, some of us have large bubbly eyes watching us like hawk's with bonoculars.. No idea who's fault that is...

Gotta get creative!

YESSSSSSS OMG I was like. Time to get back in the game!

I know I can. But, it's dialing everything in and KEEPING it there. A lil chaos is ok. Not a lot.

SO PURDY!

Don't I know it. I seem to be public enemy number 1 these days. I've given up hope on my excellence badge.lol

One of my acro's is recovering from the sbb csb grouping. She's doing a lot better. and a green slimer who survived my dino infestation.

Coral qt isnt very common, most people just dip upon arrival. But if you are consistently getting white bugs or other pest that are resistant to regular coral dips, id suggest switching vendors, if you haven't already. These guys can help you out more

I generally agree with you to switch, however, these white bugs are becoming more and more prominent with more vendors. The reason being is they are not seen with the eye, take a bit to start bothering corals, and are expensive to get rid of. I spent a ton of $ to rid white bugs, I really don't want to risk it again. Only way is then to QT...

Why would a coral vendor have pests in his frag tank destroying his income?
Most are dip cut ship shops..

I have a 25g waterbox with a radion xr-30 blue, aquamax skimmer, tunze ato, 2xnero 3, dose all 4 reef on a kamoer dosing head. 3. This tank gets milbemycin doses and fed fenbendazole flakes regularly. I keep
New frags in there for 6 weeks or more before giving them a dip for good measure, then introducing them into my larger sps system.

The 25 is nothing fancy but grows and colors acros very well and is very stable.
Thanks, this is likely the route I'll have to take.

If you want a relatively straightforward quarantine protocol for SPS: 1) discard any frag plugs and remount, 2) dip, and then 3) add new frag to a quarantine tank and dip them once a week for 6-8 weeks. That should help reduce the chances of unwanted pests or eggs getting into your display tank.

One thing I am experimenting with is feeding fenbendazole flakes. The fish seem to like it and this approach is recommended by Chris Meckley for coral pest control.

Fenbendazole flakes will work I personally know two people who were successful with it. However I dip all my acros. After my dip I inspect the corals and the containers I dipped in with a magnifying glass to see if anything comes off. I will not buy from chop shop vendors. I try not to buy from anyone other than other hobbyists with established tanks. It’s tough, but it’s the best I can do without a quarantine tank.
