I wanted to know what powerhead people recommended. I have a 32 gallon Fluval flex with the fluval marine 3.0 lights, I have 4 fish in the tank, 2 clownfish, 1 royal gramma, and 1 canary wrasse. I have 2 zoas, 1 GSP, and was looking to add hammers, and stuff like that. My budget is 300 dollars but is willing to go up to 400.

For me it depends on the tank and what you are trying to accomplish with animals. For my 210g, I have nems and softies and have good tide flow. I use Tunze pumps. I have 6105, and had the turbelle in the past that lasted over 10 years. I currently run two Stream 3 pumps and am still playing with the flow.

I think if you want good suggestions, you might want to provide more detail in this post such as what size tank you have, your budget, and what kind of corals you intend to keep. Otherwise, it might just be answers from fanboys/girls for a particular brand that might not exactly suit your needs, budget, or intended coral.

The mp10 would mean you don’t have to have wires in the tank but it would mean going on the side of the tank, other power heads you would have wires in the tank but could choose either the back or side of the tank.

I would go for the mp10, it’s small, no wires in the tank and lots of different modes to choose from.

I decided on a mix of maxspect gyres xf330 and mp10s. Though I will say it should depend on your tank style and the corals/livestock you plan on keeping. Money might also be a consideration :p

I ended with Hydor Koralia Nano Aquarium Circulation Pump. It's compactness, silent operation.

If this was my setup, I think I'd go cheaper on powerheads and upgrade my lighting with my $300-400 budget.

Good advice above and I am currently mostly using MP60s on a big tank.

Regarding something cheaper....

- and not quite as pretty as the ecotech pumps - I just bought six of these on amazon, and short term test, they are awesome for my basement frag tanks. Dead silent and lots of control options.

Can't vouch for longevity - I've only had them running for 24 hours.

Yeah, I bought Hydor's and was initially happy with them. Then one of them has been making this grinding noise.... I have cleaned it twice now and it's still making the noise. I'm not buying those again, looking at upgrading to the MP10's or 40's. I have a 32 g as well so I will be following this.
