I think it depends on what size your DT is. If you have a small DT 30-50 gallons than a small QT is fine 10gallons. If you have a medium DT 75-150 than you probably want a medium QT 30 gallons. If you have larger 200+ then a larger QT of 50gallons. That also depends on what size fish you will have in there and how many at a time. Again if you are getting small fish and 1-2 at a time then a small QT will work. If you have a large DT and plan to QT several medium to large fish all at once you will need something bigger.

For years I used a standard 29 gallon tank. Maybe once or twice I had a fish in it that actually needed the space, even though it was for a short time.
Last year I figured I'd down size and went to a 20 long.
Saves me a little on salt and meds.

I have a few different tanks that I can press into service as a QT as needed. The 20L gets by far the most use and is good, frankly, for any fish (or group of fish) up to about 4-5". I almost never buy fish bigger than that anyhow.

Thanks everyone much appreciated. Think I’m going with a 20 gallon long. I think with the info above it fits my DT size and size fish that I would be getting. Thanks again!

I have and use 2 10 gallon, a 20 long, and several 29 gallon Rubbermaid totes. Usually only run them halway ish full of water. The Rubbermaid totes get called into use the most. They are kept dry and in the garage when not in use
