I would like to put a Fiji cube 1200 gph ghost Overflow on my 125 long Going into a 40 gallon breeder in the stand. going into a 40 gallon breeder sump in the stand. Is that overflow sufficient for this tank and sump?

With 125 gallon tank at 6’ long, I’d personally go with a ghost style overflow box with the longest internal weir box possible. At just 12”, the Fiji Cube 1200 gph box doesn’t give you much surface skimming relative to the 72” span of that tank.

For their offerings, I’d go with the biggest box possible. From their website...

I would also look into Modular Marine and Exotic Marine Systems, as they offer overflow boxes with even longer internal weir boxes than the biggest one offered by Fiji Cube,

Thank you so much for your input. I love the modular marine overflows but everyone seems to be of a general consensus that Fiji cubes are better so I will definitely check out the bigger overflows.

I own a Modular Marine overflow and the acrylic construction is top notch. I much prefer theirs and Exotic Marine Systems design where the external box is even with the internal weir box. It allows you more flexibility with higher flow rates without the noisey waterfall effect from having the external box lower than the weir box, like in the Fiji Cube, Eshopps and Synergy Reef overflow designs.

Another thing to consider is that Modular Marine has a notched external box to accommodate the trim on rimmed tanks so you can position the skimmer box higher to hide the waterline.

Everyone lol? Never seen Fiji cube touted as better than modular marine. They look to me to be a ‘mass market’ equivalent to the eshopps units .... hardly a high bar. I did a lot of comparison research when buying my ghost style overflow and concluded that (for me) modular marine was likely to be the best choice, with EMS a close second. All the others I looked at were much less appealing. As Leon notes, the better overflows have the external box at level with the internal skim box.

My personal rule of thumb is that the skim box be 1/3 to 1/2 the length of the tank.

This may be a dumb question lol, but do all the overflow box hikes line up to the cutouts for overflow holes?

Within the same brand? I don’t know, as I only own the 12” Modular Marine box. I know the holes usually do not line up across different manufacturers as there is no universally followed drilling template that is standard.
