77-79 is afe range as most heaters/thermometers are a tad off and you will therefore get 76-80

I have my controller to turn on at 78 and turn off at 79. Alarm will sound at 77 and 80.

I dont control it via aquarium equipment, it is what my house temperature is. I dont even use a heater. Usually its 78f to 82f eight months of the year (colder months). Durring the summer its around 80 to 86f. Fan cooled. Just say no to heaters!
