A hardy coral that has been through my tank ups and down, including a tank crash 2 1/2 weeks ago is in trouble, I think. I presume stress related

Started a few days ago as a small white spot and is spreading. It's encrusted on the rock about twice the size of the original frag which is now totally covered. This coral has been a trooper. I even have a second piece I fragged - well actual it was the top half that broke off when it got knocked over.

This is the shady side of the coral.

Advice on what steps to take, if any?

If it's gotten worse I would frag a piece just to be safe. Being on the shady side of the coral it could be ok but it's hard to say.

Are any other pieces doing this? Any possible pests?

no other corals showing this. no signs of pests. I'm watching for coral nipping but no one caught in the act

If I were frag it, who should I do that - given that it's encrusted onto the rock. Do it chop it down to below the white area, clip that off the frag and then mount the new frag leaving stump to heal???
