I use outdoor carpet with rubber on the bottom under my 7' 200 gallon tank. I cut the edges to fit after I had the tank on it. Originally had it on a Pergo floor and when I moved the tank, the floor was perfectly fine. Now I have it on true hardwood and don't expect any different results if I ever move/upgrade the tank.

I've used cheap old ply wood. Wrapped that in pond liner and covered the whole thing with carpet. Looks professional and it lasted for years.
