This may be a morbid question and maybe someone has asked this before, but I can’t be the only one who has thought about this. God forbid something were to happen to me, my wife knows nothing about my reef tank. She has fed the fish when I’m out of town but that is it. Unfortunately we do not know anyone else who has a reef tank who would be able to help. She would have to call an aquarium maintenance company, and hopefully they would come and break down the tank and take the livestock. I feel like I should tell her this just in case lol

The thought has crossed my mind with both my corals and my other hobbies. I once saw an older lady many years ago go into a gun shop to sell some bring back Lugars that her husband had but passed. She had three of them and the guy behind the counter offered her 500 for all three. She seemed interested but wanted to come back with some other things. I met her outside and told her the value of what she had and she was mad and embarrassed at the lowball offer the other guy offered.

In regards to the corals, I have a list of the names for the wife and a ballpark number so if she wants to sell them she will not get ripped off. She will also have access to my phone of course so she can reach out to some local folks if they are interested.

I have a local reefing buddy who would be the executor for my tank. He can have anything he wants as long as he manages the removal of the system. I more concerned, frankly, with my rather excessive ‘collection’ of expensive audio equipment. I’ve an addendum to my will for my heirs on what said gear could reasonably be expected to command on the used market.

Wouldn’t be here typing this message.
In reality, my daughter has a clue what my systems are worth and who would assist her with disposal. Id want her to enjoy the proceeds of the sale and celebrate me!!

I collect guns and sports memorabilia, but have friends and family that do as well so I know they would help my wife sort through that stuff. Plus there would be plenty of time to worry about that stuff later. With the tank it would only be a matter of days before the ATO ran dry and the livestock started going downhill. Then the tank starts turning ugly and even in my death she is cursing at me about the dang tank It would be more about the well being of the livestock than the money.

Romantic version: My passing would probably spark memories of me and she would develop a passion for reefkeeping.

Reality: Prys the phone out of my hand, calls the LFS and tells them come and get it. NOW
Haha! My wife does enjoy the tank but has zero interest in learning anything about how it’s maintained. I don’t think anything would ever change that.

Oh definitely. I know I got lots of livestock that took years to find. Just wouldn't want her to get ripped off from some random person that showed interest though. Definitely go over it with the wife though. Perhaps have some close reefers who you trust come help the wife when that time comes.

I have told my family that my 8 tanks are my joy and when I die they should not feel obligated to continue all the work that I put in. I think it would be a burden to them. If everything dies, it would be ok. I also told them they could text a reefer friend of mine and he would help. I guess some day I should tell him.
Cheers to another day above dirt!! Mark

No worries. I have my apex set up to send notifications to hell.

Lolol

I definitively wouldn’t out live goldfish! I hope not anyway.

I collect and sell rare and high end gemstones. I’ve always told my daughter she is inheriting a house and a bunch of rocks. Guess I need to change that to a house, a bunch of rocks, a bunch of more slimy rocks and some fish.

Hello,

If I died today I’m sure my parents rant and rave because of my tank. I know they wouldn’t keep, I doubt they would let people on here know. Even if I asked they would think it’s too private. Not to mention my whole house of Furniture and my niece and nephews have rooms they stay in when they visit. But yeah I have been close several times and it’s super scary for me.
But unless they decide to keep my favorite personal items (some Lego sets), my brother painted these really old classic rc cars. But my tank they would give away I have a living will that they must ask the siblings first and their kids first who ever says yes first gets it. If that can’t be settled than it goes to a children’s hospital for kiddos to watch. I’d prefer some one on here but if being a 240 that does not ship well, plus rock and sand and live stock. I’d lose more than 60% of my live critters/

plus it would just suck.’

I'll take this as my notice of being your reef executor. I can be in RC in 2 hours.

My hubby knows enough to keep the reef going or he cannot ways with it. Now my Nova on the other hand, its going to my nieces. My GT Mustang, hubby can sell it, dont need two cars. My Victory Octane hubby could keep it or sell it. He can keep whatever he wants that will keep my Legacy going.
