How far would you keep your light from the top of the water up to the light 8 inches 12 inches what would be the sweet spot I feel like my life is making my water warmer than I would like was thinking about raising it but not sure of the protocol

I’d mount the light high/low enough not to blows over the edge to much.

Last time I ran my G4’s (I did as well as Hydras before switching to the G4) about 22” off the water surface- this time they are probably 12-14

I have a coast to coast overflow and the past bleed over I could actually grew coralline like crazy in my overflow as well as the sides of the tank- pain to keep clean.

If you have access to par meter and can check par numbers at different heights would probably be the best way to determine height

how deep is tank?

with the viper ,30 w 24 deep 9-12" imo

Also need to learn how long to leave lights on. I never had to worry bout light because all I had was fake stuff and seahorses, but now I have bunch coral frags that need light I just not sure on how long to keep lights on

Any advice is welcome, needed , and appreciated

Personally, I leave my lights on from 7pm to 4am daily.

To start, I'd probably go no more that 8hrs per day but you're gonna need to monitor your corals to see how they adjust. If it's mostly softies and polyps, then they should be fine.

IMO, unless you're running that light at 100% intensity, theres no need to add the extra 5inches to the height.

Re: Intensity, are the corals open? Are you getting polyp extensions?

For the timeframe, I think that it is a tad too long. I'd Maybe drop it a couple of hours
