I've had my duncan coral in my tank and it's been doing fine for more than two months, but recently it was stung by one of my nems where there used to be a little hole in it with a polyp growing out of it, but now there's this weird thing growing on it that seems spiraly and is dark red. Anyone know what it is?

Looks like some type of sponge
Pull frag out and remove with a pairing knife and fish with a toothbrush and return frag to the tank

I've pulled on it lightly before and it's definitely something hard, but I didn't want to hurt the duncan so i just let it be and hoped it would go away. Whatever's growing on it is growing bigger in a spiral and it seems to have some sort of string growing out of it. My tank does have hydroids but the string growing out of it doesn't look like one.
