What's not to love about Gonipora? It's colorful, it flows, so what is it?

Do you currently have any gonipora coral in your tank?

It took me a while to figure out where mine wanted to be with regard to flow and light. I finally found a spot.

I think they are beautiful and would love to have one but they seem to have such a reputation for "randomly" dying that I don't dare it (I've had enough "easy" corals "randomly" die, thank you very much). I do have an Alveopora as a substitute which is doing well but it just doesn't have the brilliant color so many gonis are known for.

I have a beautiful black blue and…mint green one that I love.

it’s a bit of a space hog but I don’t mind. It’s currently beating up my GSP - which I’m also ok with.

I would buy more for sure if I see the right colour. I hope it continues to thrive.

I have a pink that I've had about a year and a half and a blue/green with yellow center that I've had about 6 months. My observation is that green ones are much more difficult to keep than red/pink ones are. I lost several green ones before I got my pink. Then again now the blue/green one I got recently is doing well.

When I first got it.

Wait, so supposedly there’s 3 Flower Pot Corals, if Alveopora and Goniopora are two of those three, what’s the third?
what most reefers refer to as "micro-goni" was recently classified as bernardpora stutchburyi. That might be the 3rd one you're looking for. < RB link >
just like acan-to-micromussa naming transition, the hobby community seems to have a hard time catching on.

My newest addition is this baby Goni I bought right at about 2 months ago. Had been looking for a "Drab" shade of green or "flesh" color. No idea if it is doing good or not.

I have 15 of them and I don't target feed, they are under 2 AI Prime 16 HD and a few of them are close to the top of the tank and are bigger than all the others. Some don't like to be touched by another goni, my rainbow wasn't opening all the way. Noticed another was touching it, moved it; next day opened at least twice as big. I have lost some along the way but don't count them out. Today when I was doing some rearranging I found 2 frags buried in the fish den-both still have "flowers" although they weren't open. So we will see if they make a comeback.

I don’t have any yet but after reading up a bit and drooling over pictures and videos I’m ready to dive in. So much so that I’d like to focus most of my attention Goiopora and Alveopora. I’m in love with them. I’m looking for frags and trying to get a handle indentification of and the care requirements for individual species.

I’m setting up a new tank and I plan on having a “Goni garden”
Suggestion. If you're going to do that - get your garden from 'one place' - and make sure - they are all getting along. Multiple times I've had PERFECT growing Goni's and tried to add another one (ie. a Goni garden) - only to have the new one (somehow) kill the other 2,

I have a number of Goni's in my tank. Super easy and nice growers.
My only complaint is that they aren't consistent on which ones can touch each other. In my tank, the pink and red ones seem to be able to kill the lighter colored goni's. I have a huge pink colony touching a smaller cotton candy colony without any issues.
It's like a live game of Risk lol
