I have done MANY jobs over the last 24 years. Everything from burger flipper at Mickey D's to a machine operator at a corrugated container manufacturer. Then I decided that it was time to grow up and learn a trade at the same time I had the privilege of serving my Country. I joined the Navy and became an Aviation Electrician and worked on EA-6B's and FA/18's. I decided that I was tired of moving around every 2 years so I got out And now I am an Engineering Technician contractor for the Army. Been doing this for about 4 years now and I like it for the most part. I just have to travel alot (6-8 months a year), so I am getting the itch to do something else. But then I realize that I'm 40 and should be glad that I have a job an I just need to deal with it. LOL.

very well taken care of baby sitter..... translates to, correctional officer @ San Quentin state prison. i got to prison everyday an get paid for it.... the closing of the gates behind me sound like music to my ears. only 24 more years to go.....

I love what I do! The only thing I hate is the down time between jobs! I've had the chance to work in Hawaii, minnessota, and Russia in my short career as a union ironworker, but taking care of my 89 year old grandmother doesn't let me leave San Diego....

Great thread, so interesting to see the diversity of the group! I'm a thoroughbred farm manager as well as owner ..... been working with the horses for the past 15 years. Working in this industry is more like your way of life than your job ..... but I do love it the majority of the time - and feel blessed to have a job in this economy, especially one that I enjoy!!

Wildlife management, Conservation, Zoo Keeper, now Salon and Spa owner. I love Reef Keeping and wonder every day how I could open a coral farming operation. I think that working around all that water and coral would be an incredibly peaceful job.

Been a firefighter/medic for 22 yrs. I LOVE what I do most of the time. (Don't like to work kids, hits too close to home). I love the fact I can run into most places people are running out of. In my spare time I turn wood and do a lot of boyscouting with my son.

Been in construction pretty much all my life; father was a contractor so I was working for him on the weekends, summers, etc when I was in school. Got my civil engineering degree from GA Tech in '93. Didn't like working in the office as a design engineer so I jumped back to the construction side shortly after I graduated. I've been building water / waste water plants in the SE ever since. I'm a senior project manager currently wrapping up a $30m WWTP project in Dothan, AL. Its looking like I'm either starting a $35m project in Baton Rouge, LA in January or heading back to the main office in Atlanta to play estimator for awhile.

Have these on projects all the time. Most of the larger storage tanks are pre-stressed concrete, i.e. Precon or Crom. Deal with single & double wall chem tanks quite a bit as well; mostly FRP though.

You're actually pretty close to what was our main office before we got bought out last year. You ever do anything work with / for WL Hailey?

Crom Tanks....you mean that pre stressed coating that cracks in various places...oh yeah, i know those tanks. :)

WL Hailey has been involved with everything at some point or another.

I'm 38 and was medically retired from the USAF in 1998 after a single term... took me a few years to get my disability issues patched up, but I was managing to turn my lemons into lemonade by using my VA benefits to go back to college seeking a dual degree in English Lit. and Language Arts Education (high school English teacher, LOL). However in August I had a neurological episode that has left me with speech and mobility impairment (and I can't drive). I have managed to take online classes to stay in school for the fall semester, but for spring all the necessary classes are face to face only. Not sure how much longer the VA will be willing to give my recovery, and there is a good chance I'll be dropped with less than a year left to complete my degrees.

Husband is law enforcement and essentially I don't HAVE to work, but I'd really like to.
I have an appointment at the Mayo clinic soon... if they can't fix me up I'll probably have to change majors, but I will get a degree (probably just in Lit, and maybe creative writing) one way or another.
I do believe that determination and a love of what you are doing plays an important role in success. But, the only sure thing is that nothing is for sure. LOL :neutral:

One week left of homework/finals... and I sit next to my reef and enjoy it.
