I’d like to get back into the hobby but trying to figure out what direction I want to go.

On one hand, I do want a large system but I’d have to wait probably another year or two until we finish our basement.

On the other hand, I’d like to do a small softie tank but don’t know whether I want to keep it simple with an HOB filter or get an AIO. Also not sure if I want to do a 5g or something closer to 20g

a cheap entry system is a Fluval evo 13.5g. lots of upgrades available online due to a crazy following.
can get at any petco.
stock light works well for softies.

for about $400 you can have a nice little system. If i was to set mine up again I would order the 5lbs rock and sand from gulf live rock, couple pieces of dry LR and maybe a 10 lb bag of sand from the LFS.

could start adding corals on day 1, cycle the tank and ad fish 2 weeks in.

I was thinking of the Fluval tank. I had one in the past though and didn’t love how narrow it is. It does fit pretty much exactly what I’m looking for though.

Eventually I want an IM tank in the 200-250 gallon range.

Nice. It is a bit narrow but works well for the price. Just finished setting mine up for the third time. I keep upgrading out of it and then it sits in the closet and I figure its just sitting there so I do it again.

this time i had a bunch of tonga Branch in my rock curing tub and i came up with this.

I was thinking blenny due to folks saying how personable they can be. You don't think it and the watchman would get spicy with each other?
I dont think so, what does the #Smorgasbord think? Probably be fine where the watchmen hangs out in the sand and the blenny is rather small and stays on the rockwork.

I had a watchman goby with my tailspot blenny and there was never a problem, @kevgib67 has a tailspot blenny too but with a diamond goby if I'm not mistaken and I haven't heard of any problems.

Absolutely zero problems, I’ve had the diamond watchman goby for over three years and the tailspot blenny for over two and as Mike stated the tailspot blenny pretty much stays in the top half of the tank and the diamond watchman goby stays in the bottom. When they do come across each other they are fine. Actually neither are aggressive to any fish in the tank.

I’ll give you three weeks to get a tailspot in your tank Mike and then I spilling your horrific secret to the #S#Smorgasbord I can’t even describe how disappointed I am in you, it hurts.

Nothing at the moment but would like to setup 2 dosers for Calcium and Alk. Mag I think I could handle by hand.
Nice. I only dose all for reef currently. Might look into carbon dosing eventually

I just looked into all for reef. Looks like a great product.
I'd like to be able to target Cal, Alk and Mag individually if I could though.
I might swap things up eventually. For now I like how simple it is. I gotta vent my skimmer outside and if that doesnt fix my ph issue then I might look into kalk. But im hopeful the skimmer line will fix it
