I think it’s great you retracted that statement and kept your role Lou! From a consumer I’m gonna tell you this much.. we have like 5 lfs in Vegas and I believe only one Carries your product and it’s about 45min from my house one way! The stock is always low or non existent so I’ll shop online! Petco isn’t hurting the lfs out here I’ll tell you that much and I have 2 petcos within 10 min of my house so If I can buy your product there that’s great! If not I’ll go to Amazon or another online retailer and that’s what is really doing the damage to a lfs. I prefer to shop locally but my time is valuable like everyone else’s so for me to drive a hour and a half to grab some all for reef isn’t worth it! Now if I’m at petco which I normally am for dog food or fish food I can grab some and it makes my life easier, and only takes 20min out of my day.

That’s where I’m at but I can only imagine this is like a million dollars! :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing: I mean the 800g is like a quart and around $70 alone.. haha
The 800 g AFR Powder makes 5 litres (1.32 gallons) and should sell for just under $50. The 1600 g Powder makes 10 Litres (more than 2.5 gallons) and sells for about $75. If you add up the sosts of your calcium, alkalinity, magnesium and trace elements, needed to supplement your system, depending on what brand you are using, the All-For-Reef often works out to be less expensive.

I love all for reef! I’ve been using it for awhile now and have zero complaints! Yeah I meant the bigger powder one.. I’m just saying there is a lot $75 jars in a 5 gallon bucket! It’s gonna be a crazy expensive haha! I myself have a 350 gallon system so it costs me a pretty penny to dose close to a 100ml daily now on my tank! 5 gallon would be awesome but the sticker shock up front is gonna hurt!

As long as they adhere to MAP pricing, it shouldn’t hurt LFS. There are people on here that I know live hours away from reef stores.
I have quite a few reef stores near me and besides salt, it is hit or miss whether they have certain Tropic Marin additives in stock on a given day. It’s shouldn’t be BRS/SWA or third party Amazon or having to drive an hour to get supplies.
I get that TM wants to support local lfs, but it is good for the hobbyist to have multiple avenues to acquire your products.

I am glad Lou is staying on. I personally like that petco is sailing it now. I live way out in the mountains. no LFS with in 1.5-2 hrs each way. so this is a nice think for me.

I was thinking of using AFR powder on my up and coming LPS dom. tank. I like the one and done approach of this stuff.

what a 5G bucket. come on BF sales...haha does the stuff have a shelf life?

The 800 g container has a MSRP of $55.50. It usually sells for closer to the MAP of $47.18. There are 18.75, of those 800 g containers in the 15 kg / 5 gallon bucket version. That would mean you are getting $1040.63 worth of those 800 g containers! But the 5 gallon bucket has an MSRP of $495.69. That is less than half the price! It may not be worth it if you have a smaller system. But for maintenance companies and folks with 300 or 400 gallon reefs, it is a great deal!

Noticed this myself a few days ago, my local petco doesn’t carry saltwater fish but has some supplies and noticed the Tropic Marin stuff when I was there.

Thank you all for the kind comments. Let me clear up a few items…

I was against the decision to make our products available in PETCO stores. And, yes, I initially was going to step down as the CEO of Tropic Marin USA and step into a position of “Tropic Marin Product Specialist”. I truly love and believe in the Tropic Marin product line and the wonderful people on the Tropic Marin team that I have worked with for over 28 years. That new Product Specialist position would have maintained all the aspects of my job that I treasure, like working closely with hobbyists like all of you, and at the same time let me step away from administrative decisions the company was making that I did not agree with.

However, after many internal discussions, I have made the decision to stay with Tropic Marin USA as the CEO and help the company with this new venture. Part of that decision was due to PETCO being very active in following our MAP policy. They have indeed held to our pricing requirements. This lessons the blow, slightly, to our very important LFS owners. The up side of this decision, for the hobbyists, is that this new outlet will make a much larger range of Tropic Marin products much more available to most local markets.

While I still question this direction that ownership has chosen. My decision is to stay in my position so I can do what I can, from the inside, to make this work for everyone. The video interview with Marc Levenson was done during my initial knee jerk reaction, and I apologize for the incorrect presentation of my position.

I hope this clears up any questions anyone has.
Ok great - You're going nowhere. You and I go WAYYYY back and you are the reason I have stuck with tropic Marin, my friend both at my past Pet store and with my tanks

Seen lots of products on local Petco (Florida). Started seeing salt a few months back and recently lots of other products in the shelf.
Same here...I always browse the fish isle when buying dog food...and I was quite surprised. I can buy TM AFR at my local Petco now in Brevard County Fl.

probably when they partnered with quality marine to do all their online shipping. when you order from petco.com any fish are drop shipped by QM, and QM sells the full Tropic Marin line.
I use to like Tropic Marin products years ago, but I had bad experiences with Quality Marine, they are very dominant with Petco, for they even completely control the Petco online buying process, for example I ordered enough for free shipping per Petco live shipping policy, but I was later charged for shipping, I complained about ten times to Petco to finally get my money back before I would put in a credit card claim, and a customer service manager told me that they do not have any control with Quality Marine, it seems like they are desperate to have them, but at least the corals arrived nice and healthy from them.

Just noticed the email said "looks whats coming in new for March".

So maybe they just started carrying their products?

@Lou Ekus
I've been buying it from them for a couple of years. They really only had a couple of the products available until the last few months. With combining coupons and repeat shipping savings you can get some great deals on the salt. I was about ready to change to a different salt because it was well over $100 for a bucket locally.

Also great deals on some other items depending on the sales at that time. I recently picked up the the Chemi-pure blue 11oz for around $10 thru petco. That is half most online stores and my lfs wants $29.
