I guess I don’t understand the nuisances of how this thing works?

I came home last night and found the kitchen engulfed in smoke from the failed preparation of our evening meal. As the alarm stopped singing I realized that I had just read your story about how your husband wheeled in a brute and saved your evening at home, and so I tried this. My wife began sobbing uncontrollably as I tossed the ashes of our dinner into my water change bucket. I thought she would love the idea of going out but it turned out our family was on their way to our house for dinner!

Where did I go wrong?

@KrisReef timing is everything with women. If you flashed your special smile and said..."No problem, we'll order pizza! Anything special that your family likes? Oh, and I can hide the evidence" -- and then wheel out the brute, she may have reacted to it differently. ;) That...and I'm guessing you have relatively sane wife. I'm a gal who chooses hobbies, that involve a protein skimmer, (a.k.a. poop cleaning machine), garbage cans, and holes drilled into my walls. I may not be the best representative for the modern woman out there.

It depends...did you do something where she had a reason to hit you with it? You may have misconstrued her behavior. She may have seen her gift as a useful one.

I think she misconstrued it to mean I wanted her to do the water change making more work for her.
Being a man I doubled down by mentioning she didn't know how.

I love your story. My wife goes along for the ride of reefing. She doesn't get excited just level headed. She did surprise me for my bday and take me to st Louis.

So I come home from work today. I can't even begin to tell you how awful my day was. I unclogged the public toilet because I learned long ago, that it takes me 3o seconds and our facilities dept half a day to get to it. I was spoken to about a problem because I hired an LGBTQ historian to speak at the library this week to kick off pride month. (Whether you agree or disagree -- this is not the place.) So we had to come up with plans if there are problems. Then finally...I realize that we are asked not to use masked vulgarity, and I am sorry, but I was referred to as an expletive because I asked a man not to talk so loudly on his phone in the middle of our computer lab. He then filed a complaint against me because I refused to help him because of the way he treated me. It was just a day in the life of a librarian. (I'm not joking here.) I came home sour and bitter. I was explaining my horrible day to my husband, when he roles out a Brute container -- wheels and all. I'm not kidding. Just that simple bit of thoughtfulness because he knows I hate storing water in 5 gal containers, and it sent me over the edge. I actually got teary over how wonderful it was. So, despite the interesting day at work, I've come home, and a simple gesture of kindness, went a long way. And I never in a million years thought one of the best gifts I received from my husband, would be a garbage can.

I clicked on this one because of the title, but man the story is beautiful! Little acts of kindness go such a long way to turning someone's day around! Thanks for sharing and kudos to your husband for being awesome!

Thanks for the nice words as always. Sorry, I should have said I got myself riled up:). I still cannot believe theses people.

I am waiting for my recent order from marine depot to arrive, until then I can’t test nitrates. Can’t tell if I need to dose a martini yet;Happy. I am down with the Cheese. My motto is I love cheese. Favorite is toast some fresh rye bread than butter it, Muenster on top, melt in toaster, sprinkle garlic salt to taste and yummy. My tummy ust growled as I typed this. No cheese in the house

After the marine depot order I placed Monday I need lot more than a can. I swear I ordered like 30 things including lighting.

Going to see what I have in fridge now. Rumbly tummy. Have a great night.
