i have mine all over the place. some are direct under 400 halides some high in the tank some low. all look the same. however the ones under the 400's in the main tank grow ALOT faster.

Light:
Medium - High

I have a 250w DE 14k and I think my RPEs love being high in the tank as long there is good flow. Their color won't be as good lower in the tank but as long as you have good flow they should do well. (BTW, I'm assuming you are not talking about PC, or NO lights). If you have PC lights keep them high!

I think flow is just as important as light. Most of these PE types like a lot of flow, so take that into consideration when placing them.

Well i placed them right where the PH runs right over them and they are placed 5 to 6inches from the top with 59 watts of PC's. Tell me if its ok.

Hmmmm,

I hate giving this type of advice because if you lose your colony doing something I feel guilty giving advice. So here it goes.

Height seems good. Make sure that your PHs aren't aimed at your zoas as this may be too much constant flow. If you aim your zoas just to the side of them then you should be good. Better yet aim two PHs at each other so that their flow meets in the middle. This will give you some disturbance flow and not a constant stream like movement.

Keep in mind that no matter what you do time may be the biggest factor. It took my RPEs 3 weeks to open up daily. Only in the past week have they opened up daily and I think that may be due to good water quality vs anything else.

I have mine in the middle of my tank under 2-250watt de 14k. They are also in high flow. When I got them they were pretty dark but now after being in my tank for a few months they are very light colored with dark skirts. They are also very large.

Well guys there is no way i would be able to fit antoher ph in a 10g. :D But flow wasnt the issue in my tank, I have over 300gph running around in this thing.....thats, 30x overturn. So i am fine on flow. I was just wondring the lighting because i switched the 40watt daylight with this 32 watt 50/50 to get a more blue spectrum. It looks a whole lot better. About the RPE's opening up daily, well, on wednesday i opened up the box from Randy and acclimated etc. When i put the RPE's in they were totally open 4 hours later 5 of 6 polyps were opened. They were open yesterday but that last polyp still hasnt opened yet. But in the long run will the RPE's be ok iun 59 watt PC's, and thier placement right in the middle of the tank?

Would you believe I left mine out (had a colony of about 6) to move some stuff around & find them dried up in the morning? I almost cried!
