I came across a reefer buddy who had never been to a frag swap or show and it shocked me. He said he lived out in the sticks and it got me wondering.

How many of you attend these swaps and shows and what do you like about them?

I've been to a few frag swaps/shows, but there aren't too many around CT. It's a great way to meet local reefers who may not be in your reef club, to share information, and to find those elusive pieces that aren't often available locally.

I would love to go to one but there is never one anywhere near me heck I can't even find a local reefer !

I go to them when I can. I travel a lot for my job but I usually make one or two a year. Most of the time it is the MTRC one because they have it during our down time in Jan-Feb!

A couple of months ago I had no idea there were frequent local swaps or that there was a coral farm 30 mins away.
I've been able to attend 2 frag swaps in the past 6 weeks and plan to attend another one July 9.

I've added 23 new coral pieces to my tank from those swaps at an average of $9.57 each. Not small frags either,
Ps and Zs 10-15 polyps, 1.5"-2" SPS and the like. No way I could have ever bought such things in such a short time
except for these swaps.

I try to hit up as many frag swaps as I can. The club I'm a member of ususally puts on 4 large swaps per year. Some of the LFS near me do at least 1-2 swaps per year as well. I think they're great as you get some really nice frags at cheap prices and even do some trades. It's a win/win for everyone in my book.

Been to local frag swaps but never made a show.... I want to start attending them and will some time this year.... My tank and this board always eAts up my extra cash so I can't make them...

manahattan reefs hosts a frag swap every year. Ive been going and sad to say there never really good. Always over croaded stuffy and hot. It takes the fun right out of it

I attend when possible, it's a great opportunity to pick up many frags at at very low prices.
You will also get a ton of freebies, a raffle and all sorts.

I live in the sticks and i still manage to make it to at least BAYMAC and as many swaps as i possibly can.

I love going to shows and seeing what everyone has in one place, I like making my rounds and searching for those jewels, and who doesn't love the firesale pricing on towards that last hrs of a show. I like seeing all the new equipment too, and some of the vendors set up really nice display tanks. Theres one wholesaler that Always sets up this huge like 4foot cube with LEDS and tons of cool (rare) fish and coral. The times I've seen it usually has some kind of Hybrid tang or angel in there, with a ton of wrasse and other reef fish. I remember a pari of Choati Wrasse and I luekranos(sp?) Clown in that display a few years back. I feel I'm pretty lucky in that regard being in the middle of SoCal, I get my chance to go to quite a few shows, but I still want to make it up to the Bay Area. I've always like Tyree's CFM, especially now that they're FREE, and always a ton of cool frags at (sometimes) reasonable prices.

I have never to been to one either. The local swaps are stuff I have. I know because they post pics of what will be available. I would love to go to a big one someday.

I haven't been to any kind of swaps or shows. I would really like to be part of a swap but I can't find any close to Crawfordville/Tallahassee, FL. If anyone knows of a swap near by please let me know !!

A good place to check for active swaps is fragswapper.com. It wont have every swap out there, but some ones that choose to post on there.

I have been a vintage watch collector for 19 years and every year we have a show called the national it is a 3 day show with over 1000 tables and every year it is in a diffrent state. Watch collectors come from all over the world to meet, talk, trade and buy it would be awesome if we had a national coral frag show!

We are spoiled here in SoCal with all of the reef shows and reef clubs in the surrounding areas! Can't complain... they are a ton of fun, lots of selection, deals galore, and lots of reef friends to chat with and new ones to make.

We hit as many as we can within few hours of us. Dream of hitting a big show. Get awesome deals n meet new n old friends at em.

I do 3-5 a year. But then our club holds two a year and I'm in Florida so there's one every month or two within a few hours driving. Sometimes it's a wasted trip, sometimes I come home short a week's pay. :)
