Why do people want bigger tanks?

For me it's mostly been about more room for fish and bigger fish. I love tangs, the way they swim and variety but they need plenty of space if you want to house multiples!

Some want a bigger tank for more corals. Some as a reefing status symbol...maybe?

What do you think?

12 tangs will make one get a 300 real quick. To me it’s space. And the love of fish that need some space. Started with clowns now have 12 tangs. Still have clowns and others. But tangs are something else.

For me, it would be for more space as my 75gl doesn't allow for as much as i thought it would or perhaps i am not being creative enough.

Bigger more colorful fish, more coral. Small tanks run out of room really fast....ask me how I know

I could care less about status as the good folks here are the only people that even know I have tanks lol.
Fish are my reason for going larger also. I've had some of my my 8 tangs as long as 8 and 9 years and they started looking cramped in the 180g so I moved to an 84x30x25" 330g so they have more swim room. I wanted to go larger but 7ft is the largest I can fit without being too cramped in our small ranch home.

Idk, it’s more work, lol! I’m limited by the amount of tank I can carry or cart downstairs by myself. No one is coming over to help move a huge tank.

For me even if it's not bigger fish, its more fish or coral growth space, plus I find it to be an art piece

Recently , I set up two 6G AIO tanks. Much more a delicate process and a “Question of Balance”.

Oh and stability. If i accidentally sneeze in front of my take, it wont nuke it and the water chemistry wont go wonkers.

But other then that, no benifits.... they require a bit more maintance time, like water changes are longer, they cost more to operate, (you have no idea how many empty buckets ive accumulated from buying salt). And the Equipment is a LOT more expensive.

Opens up the option for so many more different fishes and some corals are already touching and its only been a few months so need more room for them to grow out.

Tangs and stability. When things go south you have a much bigger problem. The last six months have been spent dealing with sandbed Dinoflagellates. That is a lot of sandbed 96”x36”.

Actually love smaller fish, so I keep going smaller. Maintenance is easier, as long as you stay diligent, easy to keep stable. Not a fan of tangs, large angels or triggers, so no need for large tank. I love no more sump / skimmer / worries about complex plumbing leaking. 3 AIO never happier or easier.
